Upright Interpretation:

The Goddess lives in You…She does. This is the most magical card of the deck for me, because it encompasses everything near and dear to my heart. It is the universe’s ritual for all the Feminine Mysteries; it is the magic of all the women throughout all of history who have claimed their birthright as witches, or shamans, or priestesses of the Goddess. It’s every woman out there who discovers her own personal power, either through deliberate study and devotion, or by stumbling upon it in a totally random and miraculous way. “You are sacred”, says the High Priestess, “Revere the Goddess, who is You.

Reversed Interpretation:

You haven’t discovered the Sacred Truths yet. You don’t know what horizons can be reached, what power you can wield. You haven’t unlocked the door, you haven’t found the key– the key to the Goddess…and to yourself. Don’t be afraid, open your eyes and you’ll see Her. You’ll see the magical potential within yourself, all the wonderful infinite possibilities waiting to be realized. Open your eyes and find the magic…magic in nature and symbolism, in ancient stories and lore; magic in the mundane; magic in all the small moments of your life and the unexpected individuals you’ll meet on this journey.

A Tarot Reading for The High Priestess:
The High Priestess ~ 9/swords ®; 10/cups ®; Page/cups

The Priestess may need to have more faith in herself.  She judges herself too harshly, she sets the bar at unrealistic heights and then falls into the depths of despair when she can’t meet the expectations.  High Priestess, so much of your angst, so much of your self-depredation is so unnecessary.  You have to learn to grow in your own power and to be comfortable with this power.  It’s yours, you deserve it, reach out and grab the golden ring.

Sometimes happiness seems to elude The High Priestess, when you’d think she’d have all this magic, all these solutions and formulas for success right at her fingertips.  But the one who stands in the shadow of greatness is often the very one who is oblivious to it.  Again, the idea of setting the bar too high, wanting perfection in everything, including daily family life…the perfect husband, the perfect children, the perfect home.  High Priestess, you must learn that it’s all those endearing imperfections in life that make it real and attainable.

She will find her happiness, in the form of a handsome Page who will bring the endless possibilities of a relationship into her life.  This Page will most likely be the very one to lay a hand on her shoulder and reassure her that it’s okay not to be perfect, that she is perfection in her imperfect state.  Love conquers all things, and it will conquer the low self-esteem for this High Priestess as well.  Another golden ending…or rather, a beginning.
