Hot Off the Press!

I just received my first order of books, The Little Handbook of Spiritual Awakening, from Amazon.  If you have an order in, your books should be arriving soon, if they haven’t already.

[excerpt: Chapter 3, page 112]  (on the chakras: opening your throat chakra)

To open this chakra

1. Wear turquois or light blue. Wear it as clothing, or a piece of jewelry. Plant blue flowers; paint your nails blue; buy a blue throw rug for your house, or a blue blanket for your bed. Take pictures of blue things.

2. Sing. If you can’t hold a tune, that’s okay. Sing when you’re alone in the shower and you’re all alone in the house. You (and Spirit) will be the only one to hear you, and you will be opening up and energizing your throat chakra

3. Write a letter to someone you haven’t seen or spoken to in a long time. Write a letter to someone that you are estranged from. Write a letter to someone you’ve always wanted to talk to but never had the courage. You don’t have to actually send this letter to anyone, unless you want to. But you will be opening up the channels of communication, and your throat chakra as well.

If you haven’t already ordered your copy of “Spiritual Awakening”, you can do so at this link:

Making a Non-Wax Candle (video!)

The candle I made for this video is a spell candle for love, but for any of my muggles who happen to visit this blog, this is just the basic way to make a regular ole’ non-wax candle.  It was so much fun, and even the couple glitches I ran into during the process (which you’ll see) didn’t dampen my ardor, or the final results!

Enjoy!

Making a LOVE Non-Wax Spell Candle ~
Items Needed:
1.  a glass jar, size of your choice
2.  wick
3.  crazy glue
4.  Crisco Shortening, or any other name-brand solid vegetable shortening
5.  a crayon, red
6.  herbs ~ rose petal, hibiscus, nutmeg
7.  essential oil ~ rose
8.  a paper bowl
This project was So Much Fun, and I screwed up during the process!  When I poured the hot mixture into my glass container, the wick became dislodged from the small metal tab that held it to the bottom of the jar.  Oh dear, what shall we do?  Instead of cutting the camera and fixing the problem before moving on, I thought this was a perfect opportunity to show you what I did to fix this problem.  It’s all a “learn as we go” process…everything is!
I am hoping to add these candles, in assorted sizes and containers, to the merchandise at The Witch’s Corner.  I LOVE making them, so I’m also pretty sure that my daughters will wind up with a multitude of colored candles for various occasions and intentions!
I hope you enjoyed this video…thank you for liking, sharing, and subscribing.  (It matters, you know!)  And Happy Candle Making!!!
Love & Blessings,
Amythyst

A Love Filled Afternoon! ~ Florida Water, Lodestones, Love Magick (video)

Hello, Everyone!…Join me for a wonderful afternoon filled with love magick. This was a very impromptu video, which I decided at the last minute to shoot.  I had lots of magickal work to do today.  I decided to work outside on my deck, and I set the camera up so you all could join me .  In this video I’m making Florida Water (my own recipe!); I’m bringing out my Lodestones for some magnetic love magick, and I’ll explain a bit about lodestones, how to choose them when you’re buying your own, how to cleanse them, anoint & baptize them, and name them.  I’m also going to dress a candle for a love spell, which is an actual spell that’s going up on my candle altar for a client.  If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments below.  I tried to cover everything I could think of when I was busy putting all these magickal endeavors together, but I squeezed a lot of information and topics into one video, and there may be something else you’d like to know.

Be sure to SUBSCRIBE to my channel for automatic updates every time I post a new video; and be sure to LIKE and SHARE this video.  (This makes me a very happy witch.)

Spell a Day: Monday-Friday Magick

Here’s inspiration for a spell a day, Monday-Friday…to connect with powerful spiritual entities, beat writer’s block, be delightfully successful in your newest business venture, get that marriage proposal you’ve been waiting for, and find your true inner beauty.

We’re going to be working with my favorite kind of magick…candle spells! I’m including herbs and stones, oils, and magickal incantations. I’m assuming that if you’re reading this, you’re a magickal practitioner who is going to know how to use the correspondences and all the magickally scrumptious ingredients to put together and cast a spell. But just in case you’re not– you can refer to this blog post on Candle Magick…here’s everything you’ll need to know to whip up some delightfully witchy results!

Spell For the Day: Monday

Spirit Guide Connection
(find and connect with your Spirit Guide)

Who is your spirit guide? Are they real?…Yes! They are beings who inhabit the spirit world and are connected to you in some way– to protect you, to guide you, to teach you. You can call them angels, or guardian angels, or they may be spirits of your ancestors, or spiritual beings of a higher evolution than us. They may come to you as nothing more than a small voice in your head that you’re barely aware of, the voice that warns you of danger in the moment– the voice that makes you hesitate just for that split second that was needed when another car runs a red light, or convinces you to postpone a trip and avoid an accident. They may give you warnings in the form of premonitions, or dreams, or visions. They also guide you as you explore and discover your spirituality and your life’s path.

It’s imperative that you connect with your Spirit Guide, and the following spell will help you do just that.

Blue candles/Planet: Moon/Herbs: calamus, cardamom, jasmine, myrrh, sandalwood, vanilla/Stones: aquamarine, chalcedony, moonstone, sapphire/Visions Oil: star anise, angelica, kava kava*

Sweet Guardian Spirit, my teacher, my guide;
Touch my shoulder, stay by my side.

Travel with me on this journey called life;
Protect me from harm, evil, and strife.

Spell For the Day: Tuesday

Go’in to the Chapel
(matrimony spell)

You’re in Loooove! He loves you, you love him (or She loves you and you love her). But for some reason that all important question isn’t getting asked. You’re the perfect couple, kindred souls, coupled spirits, everything is all hunky-dory in the love department. It’s just a matter of who, how, and when those four important little words are going to get said. Here’s a little magick to put some fire under it!

Red candles/Planet: Mars/Herbs: allspice, basil, coriander, ginger, marigold, nutmeg/Stones: garnet, jasper (red), rhodocrosite, ruby/Love Oil: palmarosa, ylang ylang, ginger, rosemary, cardamom

My partner, my love;
Without you, what would life be?

To seal our love and build our dreams,
Will you marry me?

Spell For the Day: Wednesday

Loosen the Pen
(getting rid of writer’s block)

We’ve all done it, those of us who write. We have sat there and stared in a stupor before a blank piece of paper or a blank computer screen. The thoughts wouldn’t come, the words wouldn’t come, and the ideas wouldn’t jell. There’s probably mundane ways to break writer’s block, but anything that I’ve tried takes time; you wind up just having to wait it out. I’m impatient. And if you’re a writer with deadlines to meet and assignments to complete, you can’t just sit around waiting for your brain to wake up and that elusive Muse to whisper in your ear. I like the idea of a magick spell to break writer’s block, to get the ball rolling– or the pen writing, or the keyboard clicking.

Yellow candles/Planet: Mercury/Herbs: anise, eye-bright, lavender, marjoram, sage, slippery elm/Stones: agate, aventurine, jasper (mottled), mica/Mercury Oil: lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint

Magickal Muse, whisper in my ear;
Put pen to paper, make my thoughts run clear.

The words will come, the ink will flow;
My brain runs free– and off we go!

Spell For the Day: Thursday

Goin’ for Broke
(business success)

Whether you’re starting a business, or you’re trying to give an old business a new jump start, or you’re thinking about starting a business and you haven’t quite decided to take the plunge, here’s a little witchy magick to bring you success in your business ventures. May this business magick bring glittering twinkles and stardust, bursting fireworks, lots of customers and sales, and money piled high as corn at fourth of July!*

Purple candles/Planet: Jupiter/Herbs: anise, dandelion, hyssop, mint, poppy seeds, star anise/Stones: amethyst, pyrite, kunzite, aventurine/Business Success Oil: bergamot, basil, patchouli, cinnamon

Success and Prosperity shine on me;
The Midas touch will set me free.

Money, success, and flame flow in;
The universe shouts, “Win, win, win!!”

Spell For the Day: Friday

The Goddess in Me
(beauty and self-empowerment)

I am pretty damn terrific!…say it!! Repeat it, shout it, believe it, feel it, wallow in it. Pretend you’re standing at the summit of a mountain, or you’re standing on the roof of your house, or the top of the Empire State Building and shout, as loud as you can– I am pretty damn terrific!!

Now get your gorgeous damn terrific selves busy and cast this spell to draw in all that beautiful powerful over-the-top magnificent Energy!

Pink candles/Planet: Venus/Herbs: aster, catnip, geranium (pink), hibiscus, licorice (the root), willow/Stones: rose quartz, moonstone, emerald, lapis lazuli/Beauty Bath: lavender, rosemary, spearmint, comfrey root, thyme

I am Powerful and Beautiful;
It’s the Goddess in me.

I am Woman Supreme;
By the power of three!*

*Note: the oils and the beauty bath are courtesy of “Incense, Oils, & Brews” by Scott Cunningham. I’ve left the amount of each ingredient used open to your own discretion. As for the oils, personally, I prefer olive oil as a base.

*Note: “…as high as corn at fourth of July”: for those of you unfamiliar with this term, it’s a Mid-western farm thing. When fourth of July rolls around, the corn should be Knee-High!

*Note: the number “3” holds lots of magickal implications– there is the goddess trinity (maiden, mother, crone); there is the infamous line to draw in energy for your spells (by the awful awesome power of three times three); in magick concoctions, it’s often three ingredients called for; and so it goes.

Workplace Mojo– Bad Bosses Beware

Making Magick

Image may contain: fire and candles

 As I sit here, right now, let’s put a spell together on a whim and a fancy, by the seat of our pants.  So often I’ve noticed, especially with people new to witchcraft, that we tend to rely on spells being laid out before us, all black and white, neatly listed, pre-packaged, and ready to go– kind of like fast food.  We shouldn’t be afraid to slap together a spell of our own making, our own unique creation.  Not only will it ‘feel’ good when you cast it, it will carry so much of your magickal energy and power of intention that it’s bound to cause a tremor through the universe.

Workplace Mojo

1) Intention…Let’s concentrate today on the workplace and the problems that we find there.  These ‘problems’ almost always tend to have two arms, two legs, and a great hole in their face called A Mouth.

2) Candle Color…If it’s The Mouth that’s causing problems, let’s go with a yellow candle– for the element of Air and communication.  If we just want this ‘problem’ to go away, as in banishing to other-worlds, or in this case other departments, let’s go with my favorite candle color– black.

3) “Dressing” the Candle…We’re going to do several things. First:  carve the name of your problem on this candle, and then sit quietly and hold it in your hands for few minutes, visualizing this individual, seeing in your mind what you want to happen, where you want this person to go, how you want the negative energy dispersed.

 Put a bit of oil on your fingertips, either a magickal oil made for specific intentions, or a little olive oil from your kitchen cupboard, and smooth this oil over the candle.

 Crush up or grind some herbs that are related to the energies that we’re dealing with and the intentions that we’re raising.  If you’re using a yellow candle to shut a big mouth, you’ll find that slippery elm and cloves work great for this, and I’ve discovered that dieffenbachia will also stop the flow of word vomit just as effectively.  As you grind or crush these herbs, you should chant a little chant and get yourself all worked up over this issue.  After all, if you’ve come to the point of casting magick spells to defend yourself against an individual, you’ve got a right to be pissed– so get pissed, and imbue these herbs and this candle with all that emotion and intentions.

Pour the prepared herbs in a nice line the length of your candle or in a pile on the table.  Lay your oiled candle on its side, and roll it in the herbs so that they adhere to the candle.

4)  Igniting the magick…Okay, you can set this candle up now and light it.  And while it’s burning, write down the name of the big fat old problem on a small slip of paper.  Set this paper on fire by the flame of your spell candle and drop it in a bowl, allowing it to burn to ash.

While you’re doing this, chant your little chant, get mad, stamp your feet, spit in the bowl, and just throw a good old hissy fit.  It will make you feel better, and it will direct the negative energy caused by this individual to come right back at them, full force.  It’s kind of like slapping them in the face, but you won’t leave a mark.

5)  Cleaning up…Once the candle is burned out, gather up the left-over wax, the ashes, and anything else from the makings of this spell and go bury it somewhere– but not on your own property.

Note:  If it’s the black candle you used and banishing was your intention, these would be among my favored herbs for this deed:  cloves; banishing powder– if you’ve got it;  anything ‘hot’– like cayenne pepper, black pepper; anything stinging– like nettles; anything sharp– like thorns, which you can stick right into the sides of your candle.

It would be nice if we didn’t have to waste our time and energy on this type of person and this kind of magick, but the real world dictates otherwise.  We can at least be thankful that there are measures we can take to defend ourselves and to make life bearable.

If you’re the victim of bad workplace behavior, go for it– more power to you!  If you are the perpetrator of bad work place behavior…beware.

Candle Magick

1

Magick…it’s as easy as striking a match and lighting a candle– it is, really. It’s called ‘candle magick’, and there is a rhyme and reason behind it.

(I know, this post might be boring for all the practicing witches out there who do this type of magic all the time, those who’ve done it for years, those who can do it blind-folded. But there are so many new witches on the horizon, so many emails and questions coming in, bear with me– and definitely feel free to leave your own advice in the comments below. Everyone has their own little way of doing things, everyone has discovered magickal little tweaks that work for them, there is a gazillion ways to do magick. Pass your information along.)

FirstIntention

What do you want? What are you trying to change? What’s your magickal intention?  You have to know; you have to be specific; you have to have thought this out, have it squared away in your head.   It has to be strong and definite in your mind, or you will not be able to successfully move the energy along to manifest this intention into the world.

SecondCandle Color

Once you definitely know what you want, what you’re trying to accomplish with this magick, you have to decide on what color of candle you’ll need.  This is important.  The color of the candle is associated with very definite images, intentions, magick; connected even to the elements (earth, air, fire, water); connected to the planets (astrological/magickal associations).  Everything is so connected it’s unreal; most people have no idea.

Red Candles

For the element of Fire, for the planet Mars– it’s all about hot sizzling passion, whether your intention is for physical passion with a prospective mate, or just that wild over-the-top passion for justice or a particular cause.  Red candles will create the kind of energy that moves things along like gang-busters.  Think of those phrases:  “too hot to handle”, “red-hot”, “I’m seeing red”; there’s a reason for these confirmations.

Green Candles

For the element of Earth– health and money, two basic necessities of life.  Face it, you won’t be living very well if you don’t have enough of either one.  The green candle for planet Earth– Mother Gaia, the embodiment of our world, a metaphor for the Mother Goddess, representative of our physical world (our bodies).  Just as people of other spiritual paths request healing and prosperity from their god(s), so the witch turns to divinity, but in her case, it’s not a request, as divinity is part of the witch and the witch is part of divinity.  It’s a different relati0nship within the metaphysical realm.

Yellow Candles

For the element of Air, for the planet Mercury– communication, creativity, mental endeavors. it’s all about pure thought, our mind, that intangible part of ourselves that make us who we are.  Those cliques that are coming to me right now: “thoughts move mountains”, “what we think is what we are”.  The mental aspect of us is the most powerful, some believing that it embodies our soul, our spirit, that which will survive eternally.  It’s also about communication– communication with other human beings, with divinity, with ourselves.  Use the yellow candle when you have something to say, something that needs to be heard.

Blue Candles

For the element of Water…light a blue candle to invoke the Goddess, to enhance your dreams and intuition.  Use the blue candle to come to terms with your emotions, for understanding, for resolution, for enhancement.  The blue candle for the heavenly body, the Moon:  pagan spirituality, the goddess (all three aspects), magick, blessings, running with the tide (waxing and waning– drawing in, sending away).  Use the blue candle for women’s issues, with the knowledge that you are tapping into something indescribably ancient and indescribably wise.

White Candles

You can use a white candle as a substitute for any other color.  But the white candle is also used particularly for cleansing and purification.  Use a white candle for House Blessings, or for cleansing any space.  Use a white candle for invoking and honoring divinity.  Use a white candle for pure energy.  Use a white candle for inspiration, for clarity, for peace.

Black Candles

The black candle, for the planet Saturn…use the energy of this candle to return-to-sender negative energy, bad thoughts, curses, ill-wishes sent your way.  Use the energy of the black candle for retribution and justice.  Use the black candle to catch the bad guy, to banish something (or someone) nasty.  Use the black candle to regain personal power taken from you through injustice.

3

The following information is a paragraph taken from my online book, “Natural Magick the Gray Witch Way”:

You can work with tea candles, votive candles, pillar candles, or hoodoo seven day candles.  You’ll allow these spell candles to burn themselves out at one sitting, or you’ll light them at appropriate times over the course of a period of time. You will save the wax from these candles to be used in mojo bags; you’ll bury it; throw it into running water; or toss it in the trash. You will prepare these candles to work their magick when you anoint (dress) these candles with a variety of magickal oils– or a little olive oil, if you don’t have a stock of magickal oils on hand.  You will use your athame, or another sharp object, to carve into the spell candle the name of your target, sigils and symbols relating to your intention, or designs of your own creation. You will roll these oiled candles in a variety of pulverized crushed herbs depending on your intentions and the desired outcome you wish for your magick.

Friday’s Magick: Finding a Lost Friend

As I’m getting older, I find I’m becoming more nostalgic, often thinking about people whom I haven’t seen in years, or decades. If you’ve had someone on your mind, whether a childhood friend, college classmate, or old beau, and you have no idea how to get in touch with them, here’s a spell for you…

Day: Friday (relationships)
Planet: Venus
Moon Phase: waxing to full (to bring that which you desire to you)
Colors: pink and green

Items needed:
1. an image of the target, or a name paper
2. a white or pink candle
3. command and compel oil
4. drawing powder
5. a fireproof container
6. pink silk bag.
7. Optional: any memorabilia connected to the target

The Method:

1. An image of this individual would be ideal, but if you don’t have access to this, create a name paper for them. Do this slowly, deliberately,lovingly, calling their name and asking them to come to you with each letter you write. For added magickal momentum you can write their name in the witches’ alphabet.

2. Anoint a white or pink candle with command and compel oil and roll it in drawing powder.

3. Place the spell candle in a fireproof receptacle for burning. (Emphasis on ‘fireproof’.) I use my cast iron cauldron.

4. If you have retained any mementos from this individual, such as jewelry, buttons from their clothing, tickets from a concert or movie which you both attended, etc., place these items on your altar, near the candle.

After you anoint and dress the candle, light it, and set the image or name paper on fire in its flame. Drop this into the cauldron with the candle, and allow the candle to burn itself out.

Gather the cooled remnants of this spell together; place them in a pink silk bag; and sleep with this charm beneath your pillow for seven nights.

Within a moon phase, you should be reconnected with this individual; and this often comes about in strange and completely unexpected ways.

When did you first know you were a witch?

I knew that there was something ‘different’ about me before I was old enough to know that there was a name for it. One of the earliest magickal experiences that I remember took place when I was about four years old, hidden in the cool shade of a grove of trees on a terraced hillside at my grandmother’s farm.

The day was very hot, but beneath the canopy created by the large grove of trees that covered the hillside, it was very cool; and I squatted on one of the wide terraced ‘steps’, beneath a tree that had small round leaves lining it’s branches. I took hold of one of the small new twigs at the base of the tree; and I slid my hand along it’s length, filling my palm with the cool green leaves.

As my head was bent and I was examining these leaves, I heard a noise. I looked to my right, through the fence lining this edge of the grove, into the world of brilliant hot sunshine, to see a large white cow grazing in the field beside me, only a few feet away.

The wind came then, through the tops of the trees. I froze as I listened to it, the roar starting at the opposite end of the grove and working it’s way through the tree tops towards me, till it was directly overhead. I realized that this wind sounded like voices, voices that seemed to come directly from the trees.

It was then that a realization dawned on me, leaving an indelible print so strong that this memory is still starkly vivid to me fifty years later. It was a realization that I was too young to form into words…but I knew.
