1. Commanding Oil
This is the basic recipe I use, from my own book of shadows, to create a Commanding Oil; and this recipe has worked successfully for me.
Items needed:
Herbs: calamus root and licorice root– other plants with strong commanding properties may include vetiver and bergamot, which is a good commanding herb for matters pertaining to finances
Oils: you can use as a base– olive oil, baby oil (unscented), or mineral oil; for a commanding oil of malevolent intentions, use castor oil
Combine and crush your chosen herbs in a mortar and pestle, add them to the oil. Either heat the oil in a pot just until you begin to smell the herbs, releasing their energy, and pour it into a jar; or add the oil and herbs directly to a jar and leave it sit beneath the sun or the moon for several hours.
It’s that simple.
2. Do My Bidding Spell
In order to get another person to bend to your will and do what you want, you will create a candle spell using Commanding Oil. You will, in essence, put yourself above your target, overpowering them magically, allowing the oil to do its work.
Items needed:
1. One black candle to represent your target
2. One white candle to represent yourself
3. Commanding Oil
4. 3 straight pins
Carve the name of your target on the black candle and anoint this candle with Commanding Oil. Insert three straight pins an equal distance apart about an inch from the top of the candle. Carve your own name on the white candle. You will situate these candles so that the white candle representing you is above the black candle representing your target. I’ve actually taken a small slip of paper and written on it exactly what I wanted the target to do, folding it and slipping it beneath the black candle.
You will situate these candles so that the white candle is positioned above the black candle. As the black candle burns down, the straight pins will eventually begin to fall, and as they do, so too, the will of your target will crumble.
Take the remnants of this spell and bury them in the earth.

You can try. But do you really want to? I keep telling people that not all relationships are meant to last forever. People come into our lives at certain stages for a season for a reason. It sounds like your husband has moved on from your relationship, and you should probably consider doing the same thing. I know, this is difficult and painful to think about, but it might be for the best. (Note: Would you *Really* want to be with someone who didn’t want to be with you as a conscious decision they make on their own? Hello Amythyst. I did the commanding/do my bidding spell and so far no results from my spells. Should I do the spells over because it has been months since I preformed them.
Why don’t you try doing a timed series of spells, say three, on each succeeding full moon, or dark moon, whichever you’re working with. Sometimes we just need to be persistent with stubborn energy. We need to keep pushing it and moving it along.

Hi, I’m trying to get my husband to move to the US where I’m from. No matter what I say he flat out refuses to listen. During this time in the UK, my father has died, my mother is mainly by her self now, I had to quit my job of almost 16 yrs over the phone, lost my car, and now I’m in financial ruin, because of this. You need to re-evaluate where you’re at in your relationship. Is your marriage happy? Do you feel good where you’re at, and is your life flourishing within the framework of this marriage? Is your partner willing to take your feelings into consideration when making decisions, or does everything have to be His Way? By losing your job, and your independence along with it, you may have dug yourself a hole. But if you have outside financial help (such as a relative who can manage a loan), you might be able to pull yourself out– and in this case, you’d need an attorney if you were to choose personal freedom (divorce), or an airplane ticket if you wanted to come back to the US, or both. You must feel frantic to reunite with your widowed mother, to be able to make sure she has support and the care she needs. Try the mundane route first, if this doesn’t work, go to magick. But you’re going to have to be very decided on just exactly what you want to do, and you sound very hesitant and undecided to me.

I just tried this spell, and the black candle’s glass holder broke. It sent a piece of glass flying next to my altar along with forming the shape of a woman from the wax. What does this mean?
This is something that you’ll have to interpret yourself, as you are the only one who knows the individuals involved in the spell, the circumstances, the desired outcome, and the energy that went into casting. My question is, will this spell work for influencing child custody? Long story short, I have a 7yo (gifted – empath) daughter. Her and I have a very strong bond (I am also an empath and new to Wicca and Paganism).
Her father is an abusive narcissist (I don’t use these terms lightly), who has lied under oath more than once and thus far, the court case I began is going his way. He doesn’t actually want to keep custody of our daughter, he wants control of he situation. It’s a game he wants to “win”.
My concern is my daughter, I need her to be safe and loved and nurtured.
Will this spell be helpful in influencing an outcome of this situation? Will it be helpful in bending his will to consider our daughters best interest, wants, needs and safety rather than his own selfish desires?

Can you be a little bit more specific about the pins? When you say insert into the candle do you mean across side ways or I’m a straight line (up and down) the candle. Also, when it is done burning do we have to bury them right away or can it wait a few hours? Lastly, I don’t have a black candle but I have a purple candle- will that work?
Oh yeah, one last thing, let’s say the two candles are in front of me. Should the black candle be between me and the white candle or should the white candle be between me and the black candle?
Goodnight does the candles have to be placed on top one another or they should be placed on two different stands with the white one on the higher Stan. Also are you just marking between the black candle where the paper you write on can just fit in with getting burn.

Greetings! Repeating the spell is not necessary and probably not desirable. The way the pins fall may be significant, in that you might still run into an unexpected bump in the road on the way to whatever it is you’re trying to attain through this magick. It may also mean that the universe (aka a higher power), or an individual you’re unaware of, may be manipulating events behind the scenes. It may also mean that the process is just going to take longer than expected to achieve the desired result. There are so many ways to read and interpret the candles and tools you’re using in a spell and how they’re burning, or which way they’re falling, etc. Usually only the person who cast the spell will be able to come up with the answers. Case in point, I work at a metaphysical shop in Nebraska, and I can’t tell you how many calls we get with people wanting to know why one candle is burning faster than the other; or a candle is taking longer than it should, or something else went haywire in the procedure. The spell caster alone knows exactly what they were intending; they alone know exactly what energy was present during the casting and how it felt. Do you see what I mean? After you gain some confidence spell casting, you’ll be able to interrupt these things for yourself, and you’ll also be able to figure out when it just is what it is.
Should i let the candles burn out completely?
Hello, Jussy! For any spell you do, if you are unable to let your candles burn down at one sitting, go ahead and Snuff (don’t blow) them out. You can use a candle snuffer, or a small glass or bowl to do this. When you’re ready to relight your spell candles, it’s often nice to reinforce your intentions with a few brief words. Never leave a candle burning when you’re not at home, or you’re sleeping. Safety First!!

Dear Cclv11 and NI… I’m killing two birds with one stone here ~ The answer is yes to both questions. When bringing something to you, keep the remnants from your spell in a safe place, or even in a place that is fitting the intention, that is the “stuff” from a love spell under your bed; a mojo bag filled with the remnants from a money spell in your purse; etc. Second question: not only is it okay to do a spell more than once on the same person for a different request; it’s also okay to repeat a spell on occasion, especially when you’d like to add a different twist to the outcome, for the same request…. also, I don’t really think the word “request” is quite right in these situations, but since this is how you worded your question, this is how I answered it, thinking it would be easier for you to understand. A spell by no means is a “request”. When you cast a spell you are deliberately and willfully manipulating energy in the universe to manifest a change, to move energy, and it certainly will. The word “request” implies that you are asking for something.

Traditionally, it’s thought that you do the magick and then put it out of your mind to let the energy work undisturbed, but I believe there are so many people practicing witchcraft and incorporating it into their lives along with such a variety of other spiritual practices, that this is an entirely personal thing. If you feel that prayer empowers you and your magick and your intentions, then it probably does. Go with your intuition and natural instincts.

Depending upon the magickal practitioner you ask, you’d probably get a variety of different answers. Even in the occult world there are extremists at both ends. There are the fluffy bunnies who are ever in fear of getting their feet wet and doing some ballsy magic that’s got some in-your-face punch to it because they might offend someone or something, and at the other end of the spectrum are people who love the dark aspect of everything, the darker and more warped the better, and they are always searching for something darker. Personally, I would say this magic falls in the shady gray area. Follow your own moral guides. Cast at your own discretion.

Hello, DDD (interesting name)… I have to say that I’m not familiar with the two entities that you’ve listed, so I can’t give you any info on them. However, may I suggest that your first focus for a magickal working should be for the protection of the children, and I would advise using white energy for this. The spell should focus on keeping them physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually safe; and keeping them HAPPY, no matter where they are, or who has custody. I know this is not what’s foremost on your mind, but putting their welfare first would generate lots and lots of positive protective energy….think about it.

I’m on the comments editing section right now, not the blog page– if you’re referring to the Commanding Oil, calamus root and a broken chain are the two main ingredients in the traditional recipe. But think of it like cooking– change things up and do some experimenting. There are several other herbs connected to this type of energy. Get yourself to a book store, or start looking things up on Google…It will take some research and hearty experimentation, but that’s all part of the fun called Magick!

It all depends on how YOU want to do it. There’s always more than one way to cast a spell. Magick and spell-crafting are something that is very personal and unique to each practitioner. This is an aspect of magick that takes beginners a while to realize. Never be afraid of making a spell your own. Can I use cloves or fennel seeds instead of calamus. I’m having a hard time finding calamus root? I got to know that cloves and fennel seeds are too used for commanding. Oh, if you were to give me an average time, how long would you say it would take for this spell to work, or maybe I should be asking you how long it took for it to work when you did it? what are the signs that lets you know that it is working? No one can predict how long it will take a spell to work, and the best thing you can do when working magick is to cast a spell and then forget it. Worrying and fretting or wondering over it is all producing energy, and this energy will often interfere with the movement of energy you’ve started with your spell. Let the magick work, and it will. 🙂
I did the spell again and this time the black candle burnt itself down to almost nothing, there was almost nothing left of the black candle, but there was lots of remnants/ wax left from the white candle, it’s as though the black candle just disappeared into the air, most of it that is, what was left was about the size of a dollar coin. Is this normal and what does that mean ? The only candles that I’ve seen done that are the large ones that comes in the jar/bottles. I am just wondering what it means of if it means anything.

Welcome to the wonderful world of magick. I’ve had huge-ass spell candles that are suppose to burn for days go up in minutes. My explanation? Since magick is all about energy, both creating and moving it, I believe that when this happens it’s a great big green light that you’re moving some pretty awesome kick-ass energy in a very big way. It’s pretty cool, huh? 🙂
When placing the pins into the candle, do I place them at the same level or at equal distance going downwards to the end of the candle.
Hello, Eric…in this particular spell (which I’ve actually done myself), I placed the pins one inch from the top of the candle equal distances apart around the circumference at that point. Am I describing it clearly enough? When I picked the candle up and tipped it too look straight at the top, where the wick is, it looked like a pin-wheel, the pins all the same distance from the top of the candle, and fanned out around it.
Thank you for clarifying that for me, I did it but I put the pins 1 inch apart going from the top to the bottom of the candle and I stuck the pins all the way through the candle, I kept an eye on the candles and notice that the white candle burned out within an hour or two but the black candle took about six hours to burn out which I found pretty strange since they were both the same candles except for the color.
Is this a normal thing or was/is my situation a strange one?
Please let me know so I have an Idea what to expect in the future.

You can cast a “do my bidding spell” on anyone. No one can predict how long it will take a spell to work. Castor Oil would work just fine as a base, but you’re going to want to add a pinch of calamus root and licorice root to it for it to work as a commanding oil.
I am glad i came across this spell it speaks to me. However I did not make the commanding oil myself i bought it from a store ready made. Is that ok? I want to cast a spell on this guy who keeps promising me he would send money for me but never does it or if he does, he sends little amounts never the amount he says he would send. Can i use this spell on him to make him send the money as promised on a monthly basis? What is the best time to perform this spell?
Of course it’s okay to buy your magickal oils. Not everyone wants to make oils, or have to gather up all the ingredients. You can use commanding spells for a variety of situations and intents. As far as timing and other correspondences, you need to visit this page:

Yes, let the candle burn itself out, but as I stated in another comment, never leave a candle burning when you’re not at home, or if you’re sleeping. You can “snuff” a spell candle out and relight it later, but you should never blow a spell candle out; it dissipates the energy and stops the work. If you don’t have your own ground on which to bury spell remnants, look for another spot you can do this– could be a quiet stretch of country road, a large park, at a crossroads, etc.

You have to back up, slow down, begin at the beginning, and start reading…books. Check on Amazon for books in the subject matter of your interest. You can often get good deals on used books at Amazon. I give all the information needed at this blog to cast these spells, and I’m assuming it’s pretty self explanatory. Two words: Cleansing and protection. Start searching this blog (using the search box & other tools) to find posts on protection and cleansing. I think you should concentrate more on cleansing yourself and your space and using protection magick, rather than waste all your energy on command and compel spells aimed at your husband.

Can you make a commanding oil with only licorice root? I am doing a freezer spell and would like to dip my pen in commanding oil when writing my petition.
In actuality, you can try anything once and see if it works (or how it works). When I’m making oils, powders, or potions, I’ve just always included at least 3 ingredients (or 6, or 9)…magickal numbers. My premise for this is first homage to the three faces of the goddess (maiden, mother, & crone); and the inclination to attach magickal power to the number 9: “By the awful awesome power of 3X3, So mote it be.” Everyone has their own unique way of practicing witchcraft; they might follow all the rules to the letter, their noses stuck in someone’s book, when they first start out. But once they feel their power build, and they can sense their control over it– they are unleashed!
Once the pins falls out do I have to continue to burn the remaining candle out of can I snuff it and bury it?
I would allow this spell candle to burn itself out, even after the pins have fallen. But one word of caution…You should never leave a candle burning when you are not at home to watch it, or if you are sleeping. It is perfectly okay to snuff the candle if you leave the house, or go to bed, and light it again at another time. Just remember to snuff, don’t blow, a spell candle out. I love this spell, by the way. It’s works like a charm (no pun intended). 🙂
Hello, how many days shall I do the commanding spell for? A youtuber Witch said 9 days but that’s too much. Can I just do it for one day and be done? I like that yours is simpler.

I just received the licorice root and calamus root and jojoba oil in the mail. Do I need to cast a circle or do anything special while I make it?
That would be your decision. You have to experiment and find out what works for you. Sometimes I do cast circles, and more than often, I don’t. One thing that’s pretty consistent though– I *always* focus on my intention…it’s all in the mind, all of it.
I’m a beginner and am not sure how to go about my spell so that it is done properly in a way that won’t backfire or be malicious. My sons father keeps threatening me to take me back to court to take my custody or to gain more custody than me, due to his jealousy of my new romantic partner. First, spell words to say– if there is no written words for any spell, and you feel that something should be said…say what’s in your heart. Second, placing one candle above the other– I placed my small glass votive candle holder on the bottom of a large coffee mug I had turned upside down for this purpose, it’s okay to improvise.

I use purple candles for spirit work, and to enhance visions and psychic awareness. White can substitute for any other candle color. There is no wrong way, Josie– if you have a color that you resonate with, use it for yourself; if there is a color that connects with you and is all about power and control, use that for your target. And then, you can always go with the original colors called for in the spells. Improvising is always ok. It’s all about moving energy, and if you’ve got a strong connection with the tools you’re using and your intention, all the more powerful it will be.
