The Essential Guide to WICCA for Beginners ~ My favorite part!

Personally, my favorite part of my new book is Chapter 3, Discovering Your Wiccan Power, because this chapter introduces the new Wiccan to those things that will make up their spiritual practice:

  • learning how to set intentions
  • how to ground and center yourself
  • how to cast and close a circle
  • the kinds of tools that you’ll be using
  • how to set up an altar.
  • as well as the importance of your own Book of Shadows and how to get started

I’m curious what your favorite part will be!
You can find out by pre-ordering this book at this link: https://amzn.to/2FIOU1f

The Essential Guide to WICCA for Beginners ~ Solitary practice or coven?

One of the most challenging aspects of your Wiccan practice and an important choice you’ll make is the decision to either remain a solitary practitioner, or to join a coven. As a solitary Wiccan you will have the freedom to build a spiritual path that is uniquely personal; as a coven member, you’ll be expected to meet coven rules, obligations, and milestones within a specific time frame. That’s why I included this helpful tip in chapter four of my new book, The Essential Guide to WICCA for Beginners. There are tons more tips and tricks like this all throughout The Essential Guide to WICCA for Beginners.

If you find this helpful, take a moment to pre-order your copy on Amazon at this link: https://amzn.to/2FIOU1f

The Essential Guide to WICCA for Beginners ~ Founding Pagans and Spiritual Icons

My favorite part of writing my new book was the bio’s for some of the founding patrons of the pagan movement from the 1960s and 70s, because the nostalgia for that era was exciting, and it made me realize how far we’ve come. It was also a heartwarming segment to write because I’ve personally spoken to a couple of these founding pagans and spiritual icons: Z Budapest and Raymond Buckland. I know you’re going to love it.

Amazon Reviews

  • Bugs ~ The middle to end of the book dives deeper into readings – readings to help solve crimes, with case studies, and then goes deeper yet into magickal correspondences – using the cards along with numerology and systems of Western magic in spells. Several examples of spells are given. Students that have studied Crowley’s system of using the tarot may particularly enjoy the very last of the book – it may not be as clear to beginning students but serious occultists should find it quite useful.
  • Katie ~ I really liked this whole book but the parts I really really enjoyed were the breakdown of each card and its meaning along with her personal voice or experience with each card. Anyone can re-word traditional meanings of the cards but Amythyst adds in her own VOICE, I feel like she was right in the room with me sharing her knowledge and wisdom. The section on Tarot and crimes really hit a nerve with me because of my involvement criminal justice system. Amythyst shared her personal readings of missing people cases and shared an outcome (if there was one). This chapter just made me respect the author more. {I really wish we lived in a society that would at least take into consideration the use of a proficient psychic in criminal cases} I also enjoyed the section on tarot and numerology which added a whole new level to explore when doing tarot readings, and tarot spells (there are some great spells in there that I can’t wait to try out!}

An Inspiring Endorsement ~ Green Witchcraft Grimoire

My respected colleague, Gwendolyn Holden Barry, just shared her thoughts about my new book Green Witchcraft Grimoire… “I’ve practiced witchcraft, in independence and gathering from the many traditions of our multiple ancestors, for more than 30 years. When I began my personal journey into the past to anchor my own search with Earth-based spiritual expressions, my good friend on pages was Scott Cunningham. Amythyst’s grimoire has the foundational information and guidance Cunningham brought to our community so long ago. Elementary flow, inspiration to grow! Amythyst gives a witch the basic tools for growth and an awareness that helps to provide the window within where witchcraft waits to be expressed.” ―Gwendolyn H. Barry, blender and owner, Daughters of Isis

Thank you Gwendolyn for your support and kind words! I can’t wait to hear what the rest of you think, too.

You can get your copy of Green Witchcraft Grimoire right here: https://amzn.to/2LJU8cB

(EXCERPT)

The Planets

When I first began my own tarot journey, the one thing that I was most struck by was the inter-connectedness of everything. I was amazed to discover that it all works together, all of it, and it’s all tied to the cards: the energies of the planets, of colors, and herbs, and crystals, even to the letters of the alphabet, numbers, and zodiac signs. This realization was an eye-opening “aha” moment.

Below you’ll find the basic energies and correspondences for the planets. You should know, and some of you will realize, that these correspondences not only relate to the tarot, they also relate to a variety of pagan spiritual paths and are incorporated into the practices of many of us.

I wanted this book and the information contained here to specifically focus on tarot, and I even toyed with the idea of paring these sections down and trying to keep them solely focused on the cards. I soon realized this was folly. Certain connections exist and cannot be denied without diminishing their energy and their power.

Sun

The Sun is filled with healing and hope, warmth and the promise of growth. It’s imbued with masculine energy and is closely connected to the god.

As it pertains to tarot ~ for clients male issues often come to the forefront, their health, happiness, fulfillment, optimism for the future. But it’s energy is also all encompassing for everyone. You’ll find an abundance of strength, unwavering support, and ridiculous amounts of in-your-face positive energy. The future can only be looking up, and if healing is needed in some aspect of your life, you’ll know it’s coming up with the Sun.

Day of the Week: Sunday

Color: yellow, gold

Herbs: angelica, bay, carnation, cedar, chamomile, eyebright, frankincense, ginseng, goldenseal, juniper, marigold mistletoe, peony pineapple, rosemary, St. John’s Wort, sandalwood, sunflower, tea, witch hazel

Moon

The Moon embodies the pagan goddess in paramount magical waves of silver energy. All three aspects of her, maiden, mother, and crone.

As it pertains to tarot ~ All feminine aspects rise to the surface. Women’s issues become relevant and the focus is on health, embracing natural gifts, healing, and expanding our energy and magick to the universe and beyond. Femininity becomes divine. But there is another side to this planet, the dark side. Deception and hidden motives will be revealed. Shadows will be illuminated, warnings given, gray areas of life highlighted. In this aspect, the Moon becomes a friendly enemy. As a look out or scout, the Moon will give a warning cry.

Day of the week: Monday

The Earth helps us to retain a connection with our ancestors, our traditions, and our lineage with humanity.

As it pertains to tarot ~ Mars commands us to be strong, relentlessly thrusting the sword and spear in our shaky uncertain hands, forcing us to take a stand, face an enemy, make a point. It shines brilliance and shameless illumination on the-principle-of-the-thing. The energy of this planet demands that we dig deep and discover within ourselves integrity and potential.

Mercury has the ability to reconnect us with loved ones, ideas, and most importantly, it reconnects us to ourselves. This planet highlights and plugs into the inter-connectedness of the human psyche.

As it pertains to tarot ~ Jupiter likes to speed up the process. This planet is all about developing and building on your ideas, your plan, your potential. It’s bigger-than-life energy will take us beyond our modest dreams, and ideas, and visions, elevating us and our efforts to new planes of success and growth. Things are going to happen when this planet is involved, and they usually happen in a big way.

Element: Earth

Energies: magick for expansion and growth, money and legal issues, employment, abundance, material opportunities

Venus

Venus embodies love, healthy sexuality, romance, physical beauty, and the love of beautiful things in our lives, whether it be our surroundings, or the things we fill this space with.

As it pertains to tarot ~ Venus is all our fairy tales and dreams come to life, with a healthy dose of reality thrown in. Hopeless romantics will never give up on finding the perfect mate, and this planet will make sure this pursuit will have a promising, if not perfect, ending. We chase physical beauty the same way we chase love, and Venus will address this timeless pursuit as well, often redefining this attribute for us.

Saturn

Saturn is full of dark and sometimes dangerous energy, and this is the very energy we have to be brave enough to utilize if life calls us to it.

As it pertains to tarot ~ The sweet taste of revenge often cloys in our mouth when this planet appears. The very idea makes many of us uncomfortable, some of us still enveloped in archaic and conservative modes of consciousness. But from the black depths of the universe, as well as the murky corners of our minds, we realize that there is a time and a place and a reason for Saturn’s darkness. Hopefully not all of us will have need of it, but do not fear it, and do not flinch from it, should it come up in your life.

Day of the week: Saturday

Neptune

Neptune hangs on tenaciously to reality for dear life, constantly bombarded by delusions and addictions.

As it pertains to tarot ~ The dark side is dangerously close to the surface when Neptune appears. It can encompass the diffused hazy world of drug addiction and mental illness. The energy of Neptune, if broken like a wild horse, tamed, and put to good use, can be a startling illumination of incredible awe inspiring intuition and insight. There’s a very thin line between genius and insanity. Neptune takes us there.

As it pertains to tarot~ This planet lets us know that we’re in up to our necks if we’re dealing with its energy. Getting anything done, like convincing the hoards that we have a good idea, or progressing at any acceptable rate with whatever we’re plunging into, is going to be a long difficult painful process. The energy of Uranus is maddening in it’s inability to compromise. It’s cursed with the ability to turn a blind eye, to avoid conflict at any cost, or to avoid assertion on every level. The lazy-ass energy of Uranus will lay, inert, at our feet.

Day of the week ~ Tuesday, Saturday

Colors ~ red

Herbs ~ hot herbs: cayenne pepper, jalapenos; blood root; hemlock; belladonna

Stones ~ red stones: jasper, garnet, ruby

Element ~ Fire

Energies ~ originality, eccentricity, sensuality, perversions, daring, idealism, conflict

Pluto

Pluto comes streaking in with incredible force to destroy everything in its path. Everything in it’s wake seems to be touched by its terrible energy. We stand amidst ground zero, and we wail, we moan, we beat our chest, only to open our eyes and look around in profound wonder and amazement. All the crap is gone. The slate is clean. We can begin again.

As it pertains to tarot ~ This planet has much the same effect on us and our lives as the major arcana card The Tower. They share much of the same destructive and disruptive tendencies. However, Pluto is more discernible. It’s more apt to leave what we need and wipe out what was getting in our way.

Day of the week ~ Saturday

Wheel of Fortune

Archetypes: The Gambler (Kenny Rodgers); Robin Hood; race car drivers; politicians; business women

Correspondences:

Number/1

Planet/Jupiter

Element/Earth

Astrological Sun Sign/Aquarius

In a Nutshell: Luck

Upright Interpretation:

There is the immense relief of getting something accomplished, of meeting a deadline, of coming to the end of a monumental task, the satisfaction of having completed a job-well-done. This is a happy cat-chasing-it’s-tale card, but with a game plan, a touche to the world. If no one else understands where you’re coming from, or how you’re going to do what it is you’re planning to do, know that you– and the universe– will have it all straight.

Reversed Interpretation: The cat’s still chasing it’s tale, but this time it’s going in mindless circles with no game plan and not a clue as how to stop the merry-go-round to get off. You’re a long way from done, says the reversed Wheel of Fortune. Everything is left open, up in the air, with nary a solution or set date of completion in sight. Get a grip. Don’t let life, or unforeseen circumstances, rule the outcome of your day, your week, your month, or your life.

Study Questions:

1. What is your first impression of this card?

2. What does this card mean to You?

3. Are there details on this card that especially stand out for you? If so, write them down and explain.

4. How does this card define relationships?

5. How does this card define financial circumstances?

6. How is this card relevant to health issues?

Affirmations for Meditation:

1. I won’t be afraid to take a chance.

2. I won’t be afraid to take a chance while using Common Sense.

3. I won’t let an opportunity pass me by.

4. I will learn and live, love and grow, by grasping at Life’s impossibilities.

5. I can do it; I can do it; I can do it!

A Tarot Reading for The Wheel of Fortune:

Wheel of Fortune ~ The World ®; 10/pentacles; Queen/cups ®
Everything is spinning, including the Earth and human lives, spinning towards their destiny, spinning out of control, spinning onto other levels, spinning closer towards endings and beginnings. Your movement, Wheel of Fortune, is dizzy and off-center, a little tipsy maybe, as if you’ve had a glass or two of wine, or something even stronger. There comes with this movement a sense of closure or completion, a sense of fulfillment, a sense of relief. Are you playing with us, or with yourself, dear Wheel of Fortune, as from the center of your card, you boldly and firmly state, “What goes around, comes around.”

Lady Luck, they call you, and with this power you wield, you either drop golden coins on surprised recipients, or you empty the pockets of those daring enough to face off with you one too many times. It gives the world pause for thought. Is life just really one big chance? Are we here to fulfill a destiny, or are we nothing more than numbers spinning on some luminous game of chance in the center of this big black universe? And what is destiny, after all, and what constitutes riches and golden precious coins. All of these things may be something different for each individual, and it’s this glaring fact that you chase us with.

Wheel of Fortune, you inspire us to follow our dreams, to listen to our intuition, to open our arms to visions. You remind us of the connection we have with Spirit and the laws of physics, and the hard reality of life. You remind us that chances often come from the most unexpected direction and source, and you fill us with a sense of hope. If life is a game, you tell us, we all have an equal chance to win.

This 126 page tarot how-to was probably one of the most entertaining books on the great 78 I have read in awhile. The author and her unique storytelling style held me captivated right from jump. She told it like it was and thought out of the box when it came to the meaning of the cards. It was like sitting down with someone over coffee as they explained the inner workings of the tarot. She absolutely delightfully is not by the book and it just felt so real and refreshing. I would recommend this special helper to anyone looking for an out of the box approach to divination. Thanks Amythyst, you do so rock, I will never look at the tarot quite the same way again.Love & Light, Riki Frahmann
