Tarot Card of the Day: The High Priestess

Deck: Celtic Druid Tarot
The High Priestess (R)

Someone is draining you of your energy right now. (This priestess is standing on her head.) You might find yourself in some sort of crazy balancing act, trying to juggle various aspects of your life all at the same time. Someone (or “someones”– meaning more than one individual) is sapping you by making constant demands, demands of your time, your energy, your usually laid back personality. You’re going to have to put that dainty foot down and put a grinding stop to this, before you lose all your strength, all your power, and any other advantages you might still have.

Also…if you’ve lost a cat (or dog, etc), you’re going to find this animal very soon– they didn’t go as far as you think they did, wiley little creatures; your best time to perform a ritual or to cast a spell in the near future will be during the waxing moon– apparently you’re trying to bring something into your life, don’t waste this energy; to someone out there– don’t be afraid to touch the book, open it up, read and learn, it’s not going to bite; there is the idea of someone caught between a rock and a hard place– look within, you’re smarter, craftier, and more durable than you think you are, there is a way out, you just might have to get uncharacteristically tough to follow it; to all women everywhere– Embrace the Goddess within, don’t be afraid of the power you find and feel there, it’s your heritage, it’s your birthright, run with it…

Tarot Card for the Day: Princess of Swords

Tarot Card of the Day Deck:  The Goddess Tarot, Princess/swords ® The lesson for today–  suck it up, tuck it in, and soften those sharp edges.  Too many nasty words, lies, gossip, or all three have been flying around too much lately; it’s time to tone this type of destructive behavior down and reopen new channels of communication.

Tarot Lesson for the Day: Princess of Swords

The deck I used for this lesson:
Druid Craft Tarot

I’ve been reading tarot for quite some time, and I began reading just for myself and my family.  Needless to say, over the years, every court card in the deck became a family member to me, filled with both positive and negative traits.  (And I have to say here, just so we’re clear, that not every family member or individual will mirror *all* the negative personality traits associated with the card, or *all* the positive traits– most people are a healthy mixture of each.  It’s those few who go to extremes that make it really interesting, but not always pleasant.)  The court cards are interesting in that they are a psychological profile for a variety of personalities, and once you become familiar with these characters, you will notice that when you meet someone, you will automatically associate them with one of the tarot court cards, at least this is my experience.

The Princess of Swords**…first, the following is an excerpt from my book, “Tarot for Grownups”, and in this book I very clearly state the positive and negative aspects of this character from both extremes:

First, the negative side (ouch):

This Page is a bitch in the making.  He/she is a younger version of the King or Queen of swords.  It’s already difficult carrying on a conversation with this Page, because everything is all about them; it’s the only topic they care to discuss.  They’re conversation is blunt, verging on rude.  Vanity is already at work here, and because of their youth and immaturity, it can actually get to the point of ridiculous.  They have a skewered view of how attractive they really are, or how accomplished, how smart, etc.  Even now, and very sadly, they are setting a solitary path for themselves by alienating people who may actually love them.  They treat people like shit, and then act all puzzled when friends and acquaintances disappear.

Now, the softer side:

Like all the personalities of this suit, this Page is the most intelligent and usually has a very high IQ.  They tend to have a sort of tunnel vision when they are engrossed in the study of something in particular or are involved in a hobby.  This Page shares all the swords outwardly cool mannerisms, which so often masks a sensitivity they try to hide.  This individual will often latch onto relationships with pets in order to protect themselves from the possibility of being hurt in human relationships.  It’s a survival mechanism.

As you can see above, I’ve listed the extremes.  Individuals that I know, who are connected to this card, have in reality run a happy medium.  They’re smart, so smart it’s scary sometimes, and they love academics.  The person this card stands for in my world will be a life-time student…learning, writing, reading, teaching; this will be part of their existence for as long as they live.  The softer side also shows up for them, in that they love animals and have, over the years, acquired their own little menagerie.  And I do believe that the reason they have this deep connection with animals is that it’s easier for them to relate– animals (pets) love you for who you are just the way you are, it’s a kind of unconditional love that most human beings are not capable of.

Now the fun part, this is where you get to add your two cents, as it were.  It might be a good idea to grab a notebook and pen so you can jot down answers and impressions as they come to you:

1)  What color on this card catches your eye first?

For me, it’s ‘blue’.  My interpretation of this color…the element of Water, pointing to dreams, visions, psychism, intuition, and emotions.  I feel this card is awash in human emotions, some smooth and tranquil and others roiling and churning.  Blue is also the color connected to the throat chakra, and this tells me that issues of communication are being raised, perhaps new lines of communication need to be opened.  I also connect the color ‘blue’ to the goddess (and the Virgin Mary)– perhaps this is from my years in a Catholic Parochial school, passing the life-size statue of Mary in the hallway, wearing beautiful sky blue robes.

2)  What element is the court card connected with?

The suit of swords is connected to the element of Air…also emphasizing once more communication– now I’m really paying attention.  Whenever an issue like this surfaces more than once, or keeps resurfacing, a red flag should be going up.  Along with communication, creativity and mental endeavors are highlighted, but it’s this communication issue that I’m focused on.  So what’s the deal?  Who’s not talking to whom?  What relationship in this individual’s life is breaking down; how can we get the lines of communication cleared and running again?  Your mind should already be spinning with the reading of this card.

3)  What image, or images, on this card jump out at you?

I’m just going to let my mind roam here, and you should do the same thing… Yellow halos around the characters head and the sword:  Catholic saints come to mind, the idea of sainthood, medieval artwork,  purity of mind and intentions; but also illusions and delusions. (Has communication broken down because of a misinterpretation somewhere along the line?)  Also, Excalibur, and with this image comes all the pomp and integrity of ancient knights.  Her bare feet planted solidly on the stones:  stubbornness; digging in for the long haul; not wanting to be the first to back down.  But also, someone who tends to be very level headed, maybe even conventional, someone who’s solidly grounded, not easily swayed; someone who has a game plan and generally sticks to it.  The bird in flight behind the Princess:   an idea taking flight, an expression of freedom or a desire for freedom, something that this individual maybe hasn’t thought of yet, but something that will come to them in time; also, with this bird, comes a stronger connection to the element of Air and all that it entails– this is telling me to pay attention, it’s reinforcing the idea of communication as a central theme to the reading of this card.  The flowers:  to me they are indicative of spring.  I’m so often asked for a specific time-line when it comes to readings, but very rarely does this come to me; and when it does, it generally comes to me through the idea of seasons or moon phases.  When I looked at  the flowers on this card, that little voice in the back of my head, the one that’s only a light whisper, barely audible…it said “Spring”.  This would indicate to me that this season is important to this individual for some reason, or it means that the events surrounding this reading are going to culminate around springtime.

We’ve answered three questions in connection with this card, and look at all the information that was revealed in these three questions.  Look beyond what you have written down as your own answers.  If necessary, pick apart each interpretation to take it to a deeper level– for instance, I mentioned my association with the color blue to the Virgin Mary.  I could take this one step deeper and list all the associations that I have for this deity.  Do you see what I mean?  You can keep going ever deeper, from one impression to the next, bringing out unexpected results.  Mind you, this type of individual card analyses doesn’t have to be done as part of a reading for someone; this can be done as a private meditation, in which you will uncover layers of your own psyche.  Then there’s that little voice I was talking about, it’s your sub-conscious mind actually, and it’s so easy to dismiss it, or not notice it at all; it really can be this subtle, and it takes some practice to hear it.

At any rate, just because I choose to stop now, you don’t have to– keep going; if you have other questions for this card, new things to uncover about it or you, keep writing…feel free to leave your impressions in the comment box below.

Bright Blessings,
Amythyst

Past Life Reading: Spiritual Peace & Relationship Closure

Tarot Reading:  “Past Life”
Deck:  Druid Craft Tarot Deck

1. Basic Soul Nature/upon entering this life

6/swords…King/pentacles…The Fferyllt

You were one who would rather run than fight; you also had a tendency to back down or retreat when the going got rough, or the situation was more than you wanted to handle at the moment.  This behavior may have been because you were all about being in control, and if you lost this position, in whatever circumstance, it made you feel uncomfortable and vulnerable.  You had the spirit of the seeker, the sorceress, the magician, the healer; you held close with the magic of the earth and the spiritual practices of an ancient time.

Also……the ocean, or the seas, played a large part of your life, and you may have spent a great deal of time traveling by boat.  You also kept a secret, something so significant that it often felt like an entity standing just behind your shoulder, it’s representative of being haunted by something or someone.  (If you still have this feeling– ‘something’ there, something watching you, something behind you; this is where it’s coming from.)

2. Environment

4/pentacles…Princess/cups…4/swords

Your background was such that money was an issue.  I get the idea that poverty was an accepted way of life for you, maybe even desired.  Your immediate surroundings were peaceful, meditative, and had an air of solitude and refinement about it.  It was an atmosphere that was conducive to meditation and prayer.  I believe that during a past life, at some point, you were living within a monastery or a convent.

Also……the communion chalice; autumn; baptism by the river; a long period of solitude (whether enforced or voluntary, I’m not sure); perhaps a long period of healing after an illness.

3. Early Years

Ace/pentacles…Princess/pentacles…The Hanged Man

Your childhood was one of comfort, possibly even wealth, but this came to an abrupt end, and I feel that this was a decision rather than through circumstances beyond your control– this is why I have the very strong feeling that you willingly sacrificed a comfortable life for the convent or monastery.

Also……the spiral (as a symbol, perhaps as an indication of time frame here.  I have the feeling of transition from paganism to early Christianity.)  Even in your childhood in this life, there is the feeling of deep thought and meditation, reflection, and a strong sense of spirituality.

4. Education

5/swords…Prince/swords…8/swords

You learned early on that you detest conflict, and you would go to great lengths to avoid it.  This knowledge may have come from experience, experience in facing opposition to some of your life choices.  These cards seem to reflect more of life’s education than any formal learning, as indicated by the second card of this set:  verbal battles left you feeling defeated, depressed, and trapped; and this may still be a holdover in your present life.  I have a feeling that you will go out of your way to avoid verbal confrontation; and this, too, is something that’s left over from previous life experience.

Also……once more, even with this set of cards, is the awareness that you feel haunted by something ‘behind you’, either literally as though something is physically close to you, bothering you in some way, or the feeling that you have to watch over your shoulder, including the ‘hair standing up on the  back of your neck’ feeling.  You may also feel ‘up in the air’ over something in your life, unable to come to a decision.

5. Accomplishments

9/swords…5/cups…4/cups

Your accomplishments in previous lives have to do with overcoming personal demons:  you’ve had to learn to survive periods of depression and anxiety; you’ve had to learn to stop procrastinating and face issues and situations that needed your attention, things that you may not have wanted to deal with at all; you’ve learned to handle suffering and mourning with courage, and to come through the experiences as a stronger individual.

Also…the feeling of being chased (there it is again, the feeling of ‘something behind you’, whether literally being chased by something, or figuratively by something from your past, or your past lives.)

6. Occupation

Ace/swords…10/cups…The Fool

Your occupation in a previous life involved mental endeavors, study, and learning, the world of the scholar.  It was also centered around the home, or a facsimile of such, as the convent or monastery would be, involving a tight-knit society, or group.  At times, your occupation, or your quest for knowledge, experience, and answers led you to travel; this may well have also included journeys of the mind through meditation and deep thought.

Also…again, ‘autumn’ comes to mind (there must be some significance to you, this season, both in your past lives as well as your present); birth– perhaps this is the season of your birth, present or past, or someone who is significant to you was born during autumn.

7. Social Status

9/pentacles…The Sun…7/pentacles

You were someone of high status in this past life, perhaps a Reverend Mother, or a Mother Superior, as this reading points so strongly to a religious spiritual life.  You also held financial responsibilities within this position as well.

Within this realm, you were happy, content with yourself and your accomplishments, at peace with the world.

Also…birds were important to you and relevant somehow with your position– such as homing pigeons, carrier pigeons, or the hunting birds, like the falcon or a variety of hawk.  One or more of these creatures may also be your totem animal in this, your present life.

8. Relationships

King/cups…The Tower…King/swords

At some point in your life, probably very early on, you were caught in a love triangle between two very powerful men.  This led to some sort of disaster for you, figuratively as well as literally. This may have had something to do with your decision to devote your life to the spiritual world and divinity, to the contemplative life of the convent.

Also…the idea of a worn-out sense of loyalty (this idea is coming from the King of Cups), a sense of weariness connected to this King.  The King of Swords has a completely different energy– virile, strong, verbally eloquent, high energy.  What came to transpire between these two individuals in your past life was life altering for you, creating a chaos and disaster that you may not have healed from even within this life-time.  If you feel uneasy about relationships in general, if you find it difficult to trust and you tend to take things more slowly than most, this is where it may all stem from.

9. Family Life

The World…3/swords…6/wands

These cards seem to define and corroborate the previous cards– the three of swords is symbolic of a tragic love triangle.  The World stating that this situation came full circle to a conclusion; and the six of wands suggesting that you came through this experience bruised but wiser.

Also…the four elements (earth, air, fire, water), and with these elements a sense of sexuality in it’s most pure form, chivalry, power and strength from a feminine perspective.  In this past life, you appear to have suffered a blow to the heart which, as the previous cards stated, might effect how you form relationships in this life-time.

10. Death

7/swords…Rebirth…Strength

Your death in the past life most high-lighted within this reading appears to have been a very quiet solitary death at an advanced age for the time period it was (during the early years of Christianity).  I feel that it involved a fever.  I also get the impression from these cards that within one of your incarnations you were a male, but I don’t feel that you lived past childhood, dying as a young boy.

I feel that one other incarnation is revealed with these cards, and this is a young, very independent strong-willed pagan woman.  Beautiful and free-spirited, with a strong bond to animals.

11 & 12. Lessons Learned

King/wands…Prince/pentacles…2/cups

It’s all about relationships and learning to fit the pieces together in a constructive desirable way.  It’s a matter of seeking your soul mate, and this may be a journey that will last through several lifetimes till you finally get it right.  It’s about learning to balance being in control, and knowing when it’s okay to let go of the reins and let someone else take the lead.

The Star…5/pentacles…2/pentacles

It’s about learning to find balance in all areas of life, it’s about learning that extremes are never good, even if you think they might be at the time.  It’s about learning to deal with adversity in a constructive manner, learning to be an optimist, learning to handle the mundane aspects of life with this same type of equilibrium.

13 & 14. How your past life affects your present life.

The High Priestess…The Moon…The Chariot

You tend to seek spirituality in this life-time, just as you did in past lives, though the journey may take you on totally different paths for each incarnation– it’s all about the journey, not the final destination.  It’s about honesty, dealing with harsh realities, it’s about learning to follow your instincts, to rationalize the bumps in life, to recognize those people who are constructive to your life and those people who are destructive, and it’s about having the strength to weed them out.

It’s about not being afraid to try new things, to follow new roads, to seek new adventures.

Cernunnos…The Lord…6/cups

It’s about learning from your past, not only past lives, but the past stemming from your present life.  It’s about recognizing and acknowledging those people you’ve lost contact with, it’s about reopening communication.

It’s about learning to deal with male energy, both from past life experiences, as well as the present.  It’s about learning to define positive aspects of the men in your life, about striving to develop positive relationships with a positive attitude. It still boils down to finding your soul-mate in the end.  It seems to be a journey you’ve been on for quite some time.  Along the way, it’s also been a spiritual quest, and a very successful one, it would seem.

Tarot: Lesson 1

The following is the an introductory lesson in a series of online tarot lessons that can be purchased at my website:
The Witch’s Corner… click  Here

Lesson 1: A Card A Day

This exercise is going to go a bit deeper than merely choosing one card and jotting down your interpretations. We’re not going to leave it at that. We’re going to take this card apart, looking at it from levels unthought-of and through aspects not usually brought out in most tarot classes.

To begin, pick your card. You can shuffle your deck and cut the deck, choosing a card any way you want to. You can spread them out in a big messy pool, back sides up, and choose a card this way if you wish. Just find one card, one card that you select out of the entire deck.

1. In your notebook, write down the name of this card.

2. Is this card a major arcana or one of the suits?

If this is one of the suits, write down which element and season it is associated with. (Refer to page 35 in my tarot book.)

If this is one of the major arcana, write down which astrological sign and element this card is associated with. (Refer to page 171 in my book.)

Write down the number associated with this card. If the card has a two digit number, add the numbers together, and keep doing so, until you get a one digit number. Write down the numerological meaning for the number you arrived at.

(Page 189)

3. Read the traditional meaning for the card that you drew.

If it’s a major arcana card, see page 12. For a more detailed version, turn to page 13.

If it’s a card from one of the suits, Ace-10, see page 38; for court cards, turn to page 64.

4. Now put my book down and pick up your card.

Relax, take a deep breath, ground and center yourself if you know how to do this and if you feel the need. Look at this card, not in a rushed or expectant way, but in a contemplative mood. Allow your mind to be open, and allow your mind to wander. Pay attention to what you mentally ‘see’ and feel, pay attention to impressions that are coming to you. Take your time, all the time you need.

When you are ready, write down…

a) The first thought that came to you when you looked at the card. Include details, as much detail as you can. Did this thought involve a scenario or a stagnant scene? Were there characters or animals? Objects or locations?

b) The first person you thought of when you looked at this card. Is it someone you are close to, or at odds with? Is it a living person, or someone who is deceased?

c) What color came to mind? What do you associate with this color?…including people, places, objects, memories, feelings.

d) Did a memory come to mind when you viewed this card? If so, is it pleasant, or unpleasant? Does it include people you are still in contact with now, or people who have passed? Does it include particular animals, objects, a specific time period?

If so, write it down– in detail.

e) Write down any and all random impressions. This includes impressions and details that you might feel make no sense, at least not at the moment. Write down how you feel about the card, and what emotions surfaced.

5. If you have any dreams on the first night after viewing this card. Write this dream down in your tarot journal– in as much detail as you can recall.

Tarot Card for the Day…

10/pentacles (Reversed)…the golden coins are falling away for someone, floating to the ground like huge soap bubbles going to pop when they hit bottom.  If it’s you this card is for, you’re involved with a family situation, perhaps multi-generational.  You’re trying to conduct business without every member of your household being in on it, and this is where the trouble might lay.  The idea of ‘co-conspiracy’ comes to mind, but also the idea of someone who feels left out, perhaps threatened in some way by all the secrecy they feel going on around them, paranoia and suspicion also come into play with this scenario.  Of two people involved in this situation, one carries the value of honesty and loyalty, and the other does not– know this and work from there.  Money can be such a sticky subject, even among family, and sometimes especially among family.

The Year in Advance (a 36 card tarot reading)

The following is an actual tarot reading done for a client (published anonymously, of course).  This is an example of ‘The Horoscope Spread’ (nontraditional), offered at my website:

http://ladyamythyst.webs.com/tarotreadings.htm

This spread covers a 12 month period.

Tarot Reading
Deck:  The Goddess Tarot
(Horoscope Spread)

April:
6/swords ®, Balance ® (the goddess, Yemana), 2/pentacles ®

It appears that you are trying to find balance, perhaps after the end of a relationship.  Not only is your emotions, mentality, your whole psyche, being thrown off by this imbalance, but your finances as well.

The goddess found on the card of Balance in this deck, Yemana, is the patron goddess of women, especially pregnant women, and children.  Offer this goddess sweet liquids, blue candles, and incense so she will bestow upon you good health and healing of the body, mind, and spirit.

Other insights…uncertain movement, or uncertainty about moving; “the worst is behind you”; changing direction; strength from the hands (perhaps creativity); hidden agendas; “rising above it all”; duality; multi-tasking; two of something, as in a hand in each; a flock of white birds, perhaps symbolizing freedom, or freedom of thought.

May:
Magic ® (the goddess, Isis), 9/cups, Wisdom ® (the goddess, Sarasvati)

This month is characterized by a temporary loss of power or direction, but it swings around to your favor mid-way through and you will wind up with what you wished for, or what you thought you wanted.  With this comes wisdom, a new insight into what direction you’re headed, what path you have decided to embark upon.  Perhaps the biggest surprise will be that once you’ve gotten what you wished for, you’ll decide that maybe this wasn’t what you wanted after all.

Two goddess are highlighted for the month of May:  Isis, the Egyptian goddess considered a patron goddess of nature and magic; and Sarasvati, the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, the arts, and science.

Other insights…a totem animal, the hawk; ancestral interest or knowledge; a secret to be uncovered, or a secret admirer to be unveiled; the time of the waning crescent moon is significant this month; the proverbial “pot at the end of the rainbow”; the idea of many irons in the fire, a busy month, lots going on, maybe too much at once; the serpent, representing sexuality, wisdom, the goddess.

June:
Tradition (the goddess, Juno), 7/staves, 3/pentacles

You will find yourself immersed in conflict at work; and you will also find that the best course of action will be to stick with the tried and true way of doing things, the traditional methods.  This will not be the time to try something new, or to instigate new rules and regulations; it will not be the right time or place to change the game plan in mid-stream.

The goddess, Juno, is highlighted this month, which I thought was ironic, but that’s the way the cards so often work.  She is a Roman goddess with the touch of a warrior about her, and it’s her energy, strength, courage, and perseverance that will be needed this June.

Other insights…a struggle with vanity, which may have more to do with ego, rather than physical attributes; the full moon is a significant time for your this month; a position of leadership is highlighted; don’t back yourself into a corner with rash decisions, reprimands, or demands; confrontations; triplicates.

July:
4/cups, 3/staves ®, Prince/cups ®

There’s an issue that has to be faced and resolved involving a partnership, most likely a relationship issue.  You have to make a decision, and until you do, you will feel as though you are stagnant.  Yes or no?  Pick one and get things moving again.

Other insights…a third party; business contracts or opportunities; this month the waning crescent moon will be a significant time for your; a knoll…take the high road; the idea that it’s always ‘the odd man out’; when making a decision, don’t go with popular opinion, you may even choose to go against it; don’t wait too long before making a decision, you might loose an opportunity; Celtic traditions; the elements of Water and Fire, pay homage to both and incorporate their energies into your daily life, especially this month– emotions and passion.

August:
2/cups ®, 10/cups, 9/pentacles

You will discover this month that a coupling or a partnership was the correct choice, and within this decision, you’ll find the fulfillment of happiness in your home-life and within yourself.

Other insights…the full moon for this month will be an especially powerful one energy-wise for you, make your wish, fulfill your magick, whatever it is that you do (whatever divinity or spiritual path you follow), make sure that you honor it at this special time; there will be a rejoining, or reconnecting, with someone you’ve been estranged with; spiritual enlightenment and personal fulfillment are highlighted for August, it’s a month for growth on all sides; “commitment” is the key word for August; promises, binding promised; rainbows, the idea of positive energy, of attainment, something coming full circle; “mediator”.

September:
6/pentacles ®, Prince/staves, Oppression (the goddess, The Wawalak)

The goddesses highlighted this month are the twin sister goddesses of Australian origin known as the “Wawalak”…it is their fierce determination to protect their young against the Great Serpent Goddess that inspired their worship throughout the aboriginal tribes.  It is their strength of will and courage that is honored and worshipped as a mirror of pure womanhood.

This month will be one of frenetic energy and mixed signals.  Although you will start out on a positive note, it is this troubling energy that will disrupt the month for you, and this energy could come in the guise of a young male figure, one with too much energy, bravado, and opinion.  If this is the case, you will know that you must rein him in.  To wind up the month of September, you may have to call upon the energy and courage the twin goddesses epitomize…hang on tightly to what you have, monetarily speaking, and don’t give in to someone else’s suggestion for making easy money, or taking financial shortcuts.
Other insights…a ‘sisterhood’ is highlighted in September; the Triple Goddess (if you’re Wiccan or pagan, you understand this concept); seeking approval and accolades; a feeling of dread– don’t fight it, or let it throw you off-kilter, just listen to it and be aware, it will pass; mirror images.

October:
2/staves ®, 8/swords, Temptation ® (the goddess, Nyai Loro Kidul)

A partnership is going to leave you feeling a bit confined; either you’re going to have to shake it up a bit and roil the waters, or you’ll plug along in a semi-state of discontent, feeling rather trapped by it all.  This ‘partnership’ will be either business/work related, or it will be a personal relationship; you will be acutely aware of which it is.

The Indonesian goddess for this month is Nyai Loroo Kidul, “Queen of the Southern Sea”, often depicted as a mermaid or having a snake’s body.  Her magick lay in the power of rejuvenation and the acquisitions of spirits.  Her tonic is the violent waves of the ocean and the cleansing/healing properties of it’s waters.

Other insights…the idea of ‘co-dependence’; deep sleep; this month may find you dealing with a slight malady, perhaps a bug or something that will lay you up for a few days; emotional turmoil or indecision; shapeshifting– ‘be what you need to be, or be what they need to see’; the element of Water– dreams (pay special attention to them this month), visions, intuition, deep emotions, relationships; water– as in waterways, rivers, streams, oceans…there seems to be some link between you and a body of water this month, I’m not sure how or why this connection comes up, but I’m sure you’ll figure it out.

November:
7/cups, Prince/pentacles, 5/pentacles ®

Decisions dealing with a financial issue or question are highlighted this month, and the decision that you come to will result in a sort of ‘digging-out’ from some negative financial goings on, it will, in effect, turn things around for you.  Take your time, think wisely, and go with your first instinct.

Other insights…skeletons in your closet, if you’ve got any, now would be the time to clear them out or expose them, they’ll do less damage this way; write down any dreams you might have this month, chances are they won’t just be regular old dreams, but instead will be prophetic or messages from the dead; you might be in for a pleasant surprise this month, not necessarily earth-shaking, but nice none-the-less; either there is a young man around you who is stable, responsible, and good with money and material issues, or this is your energy reverberating throughout the cards for this month; ‘get your ducks in a row’; the idea of not going it alone is strong with these cards, you’ll have a partner/friend/mate, someone whom can share some of the burden with you.

December:
8/pentacles ®, Ace/staves, 10/pentacles

Work– it’s a bit foggy, but it looks as though you will either 1) lose the job you have now, which will turn out to be a good thing, as other opportunities for new financial ventures will be knocking at your door, 2) you will be put to the test with some rigorous new training or schooling in order to advance your position in your current job– either way, it’s a plus.

Other insights…creativity, an art form that is a pastime or hobby for you; a rainbow and all the cliques that go with it, including the one about the pot of gold; paint or painting; money made through artsy adventures; planet– the Sun, with all the intensity, masculine energy, and light that goes into it, including the energy of the god, the ‘he-man’; there is the idea of new money coming in from an unexpected source; there is also the idea of a doorway or a threshold, implying new opportunities, new pathways, or a rite-of-passage.

January (2014):
Princess/staves ®, Transformation (the goddess, Ukemochi), Queen/cups ®

The goddess highlighted this month is Ukemochi, a Japanese goddess of the Shinto religion known as “The Goddess of Food”.  She was killed because her gift of producing food with her body disgusted the recipient, but even in death she continued to provide sustenance.  She is the goddess of abundance.

Expect a final decision or unexpected news concerning business and finance.  The positive outcome from this will be a new age of prosperity for you.  Also, throughout this time, you will learn how to assert yourself in ways that you haven’t tried before, and with the knowledge that it’s okay to stand up for yourself, to stand your ground, you’ll feel a renewed sense of power and energy. Don’t hold back.

Other insights…dignity, grace, and beauty; quiet solitude; there is the idea of exploring your physical side, perhaps your sexual side, and shedding old inhibitions; shared intimacy; a double full moon; I’m also getting the feeling of two other very definite personality types, I’m not sure if this is 1) two very different people who share your circle as friends, or 2) two very different sides to your personality, almost like split personalities; the element of Water– great significance in dreams always comes up with this element, as well as a sharpening of the intuition, the idea of serene contemplation, gentleness and composure, the sign of Libra, early autumn– that time of transition at the end of summer, this time could prove significant for you.

February (2014):
Ace/pentacles ®; Contemplation (the goddess, Chang O), Judgment (Gwenhwyfar)

Money issues could take a bit of a dip this February, as someone either didn’t think things through thoroughly, or someone tried to take shortcuts that didn’t work or were frowned upon by other participants in the venture.

The goddess for this month is Chang O, a Chinese goddess of the Moon.  This goddess wound up on the Moon through a series of unfortunate events– she began her existence as an immortal, later having this position taken away from her through a series of mistakes by her husband who angered the higher-ups, but then back she went to being immortal by being the naughty little wife who didn’t trust her husband and who discovered his magic pill stash– she overdosed and floated to the Moon.  I’m sure there’s a lesson here somewhere, and I’m willing to bet, with it’s Asian origin, the ‘magic pill stash’ was most likely Opium.

The other mythical female character in this group of cards is Gwenhwyfar, who is technically not a goddess, but the unfaithful wife of King Arthur.  She was a woman tortured by the fact that she was unable to conceive, madly in love with her husband’s closest companion, and a woman driven to a convent by her guilty conscience.

I’m sure that there is a link here between these two female figures and this month.  Both of these women suffered from issues with trust, both of these women crossed boundaries that were unacceptable, and both of these women suffered unexpected and unpleasant consequences because of it.

Other insights…seedling, or a sapling; gold; eruption; fertility (or infertility)–as an issue in some form (area) of your life; the idea of a midnight sky, a star-filled sky; there’s the idea that someone here is in a dominant position and someone is submissive; nobility; the idea of raising a wall between yourself and others; totem animal: the greyhound; giving a blessing, good wishes on another– being able to graciously give a blessing, as well as to graciously receive one.

March (2014):
Princess/swords, The Star (the goddess, Inanna), Ace/cups

You will receive unexpected news or insight into a relationship, perhaps the heralding a new relationship on the horizon, or a change in the status of a present relationship (all in a positive perspective, of course).

The goddess for March is Inanna, the Sumerian goddess of sexual love, fertility, and warfare.  The energy of this goddess is unpredictable and contradictory, combining the nuances of both love and war, male and female attributes; and this goddess has a reputation for throwing hissy fits.  She’s definitely on the temperamental side.  Since ‘relationship’ appears to be the theme for this month; this goddess is either heralding the ride you’re in for, or she’s showing up to offer you her support– or both.  At any rate, she’s saying, “Use my energy”.

Other insights…the idea of the sword and the stone, and just ‘the sword’ as well; the magick circle, or any sacred space; it’s the waning crescent moon that’s highlighted this month– perhaps there’s something you need to send away?; griffons, gargoyles– protectors and defenders; masculine energy (the Sun), “my cup runneth over”; sleep, meditation, or a state of inner consciousness.

The Ten of Pentacles

The following is an abbreviated example of an online tarot reading.  This card was drawn for myself within the past two weeks and has no connection with any of my clients or readings done for them.

The events hinted at within this reading have already come to pass.

10/Pentacles (R)…The ten of coins (or pentacles) usually represents money that is somehow connected to family in some way, either through business ventures or inheritance, etc. Since the card is reversed, it points to a problem in this area– something that is not fair, or perhaps someone is not being honest, or there is some sort of legal obstruction tying this money up.

What you read above is the general meaning of this card.

Now I’ll look at it again. This time with the intention of an intuitive reading:

Upon this deck (the Universal Rider/Waite), at the bottom of the card, which is now the top of the card, there are two white hounds standing close together at their master’s feet. The white-haired master’s hand rests on the head of one of the hounds, telling me that whether this person is present or not, he still carries great influence in this matter.

There is a man and woman pictured on this card standing apart from the old man and his hounds. This group is divided, which tells methat there are divisions among family members, sides chosen with lines drawn in the sand, loyalties laid out, etc.

The image of the child hiding behind the couple leaps out at me in a blaring revelation. This ‘child’ is reaching out, from behind the couple, laying his hand on the rump of one of the white hounds. This ‘child’ represents a person who is orchestrating these events and manipulating the outcome of this legal matter from behind the scenes.

All in all, this seems to be a pretty sordid story derived from today’s card. “Dysfunctional’ probably does not begin to describe the family or group of people involved in this situation.
