Questions & Answers

I receive a considerable number of questions from people, and I’ve answered a handful of them here.  I’ll be re-posting on this particular blog from time to time, when I get the opportunity.  This just seemed like an easier solution rather than trying to answer individual emails, as more than one person often asks the same question.  It just seemed logical to gather the answers all in one place.  Remember that these are my opinions, this is about my path– and you asked.

Is there a difference between a Witch, a Wiccan, and a Pagan?
What do you feel are some of the major differences?

Yes, there is a difference, and still, most people tend to lump these categories together indiscriminately.

“Pagan” is a broad term that covers a variety of beliefs and practices. It’s an umbrella term that includes witches; Wiccans- every tradition, clan, or solitary path you can think of; Druids; and a garden variety of spiritual practices that stray from the mainstream religions, primarily Christianity.

“Witch” implies someone who is knowledgeable in the ‘Olde Ways’, someone who casts spells, practices divination, herbology, etc. A witch is steeped in earth-based shamanic methods in free-form, not tying her/himself to any particular creed, to any particular set of rules or regulations, group or clan. The witch tends to be a free spirit and often treads where others fear to go when it comes to practicing the occult.

“Wicca” is a religion which encompasses organized and ordered membership, regulations, and practices. It is also an earth-based and nature religion which has grown to include a wide variety of paths, traditions, clans, and covens. Most Wiccans abide by the Wiccan Reed, and seek membership that comes with required study and initiation.

When did you first realize you were a Witch?

I always knew that I was different and that I often perplexed people, though as a child I wasn’t sure how or why. The earliest memory I have of a ‘realization’ probably came when I was about five years old, crouched alone on a terraced hillside. It was a hot summer day, though I was in a dark cool place, as the hillside was full of trees. I looked to my right, past the wire fence that separated the yard from pasture, and watched a herd of cattle grazing in the hot sun, only a few feet away from my cool dark world. I reached to the low branch of a young locust tree, wrapped my fingers around a small green stem and gently slid the leaves off, into my palm. I stayed there for quite some time, crouched beneath the tree, closing my eyes to listen to the wind in the trees, believing that they were speaking to me.

I don’t remember what I did with the leaves, though I do remember that I wanted them for a reason.

Is it important for a Witch to have a code of Honor?

It depends upon how you look at it. If by a ‘code of honor’, you mean that she must abide by someone else’s rules, someone else’s measurement of what is right or wrong, then I would have to say no.

Each individual, witch or not, who is an intelligent human being knows when they are doing right and when they are doing something questionable. And ‘questionable’ in this instance doesn’t necessarily mean something you shouldn’t do, it can mean something that isn’t always done but needs doing, it can mean something gritty and serious that must be done.

The Witch, a real witch, moves in a landscape that is neither white nor black, it’s filled with shadows that are shades of gray; and to the witch these shadows are not off limits. Balance is required in all things, including the practice of Witchcraft; and once in a while boundaries have to be broken to maintain this balance.

 How would you define “Mojo”?

I would describe ‘mojo’ as ‘magick’…magick that incorporates natural elements to produce physical manifestation: herbs, stones, bones, personal items, bodily secretions, potions, powders, images, symbols, etc. Mojo also relies on intention and will, but not at the same level or intensity as Wiccan magick. With mojo, the magick resides in the molecules of the items used. The traditional voodoo priestess does not consecrate or empower her mojo bags; she believes that the power is already there.

 How do spells work?

Spells work by using the energy of our will and intentions, along with strong visualization, coupled with natural objects such as candles, fire, water, herbs, stones, photos, images, etc.; to produce physical manifestation into the real world. You must be able to see the objective of your spell as though it already exists. If you cannot visualize what you desire as though it already exists, you will not be able to manifest into the physical realm.

Why do you practice so many different
forms of witchcraft on your path?

 I am an eclectic Witch.

There’s incredible knowledge and magick to be found on a number of occult paths. It’s like a magickal buffet of rich and varied practices that all work in different ways and on different levels. To me, it’s there for the taking, there for my use. We just have to be open-minded enough not to be afraid to explore other religions, other forms of spirituality. Human beings have a terrible habit of pigeon-holing everything, thinking that everything must fit into specific boxes and that you can’t mix and match or you’ll mess things up.

I don’t eat the same thing for breakfast every morning, I don’t wear the same kind of clothes everyday. And as much as I love chocolate, if that were the only thing I was allowed to eat, it would get monotonous.

The Life & Times of a Witch…photos

The following photos and narrative were originally posted at my website,
The Witch’s Corner

The contents of this page at my website are going to
be deleted and new information added.

photogallerywitchscorner2.jpg picture by Amythyst1

This is a set of shelves that I have, embossed with elephants and framed…with bamboo.  Besides my Buddahs, it contains my cyrstal ball– held aloft in the trunks of three elephants, and a statuette that I bought in Old Market, Omaha, of a couple perched in a Kama Sutra position.

photogallerywitchscorner.jpg picture by Amythyst1

The back deck of our house is full of morning glories.  This is one of the hand rails on the stairs, buried in the brilliant blooms.  We love to sit at the round glass top table out here and have coffee, do schoolwork, write, bring out the ouija board, or whatever else we have a hankering to do.

 photogallerywitchscorner3.jpg picture by Amythyst1

My messy ‘working’ corner, now open for the world to see.  Actually, it’s much neater in this picture than it usually is.  I had just finished up working on some candles and thought– here’s a moment of pure realism, let’s go with it.

photogallerywitchscorner4.jpg picture by Amythyst1

This is a photo of the moon that I took last night (Monday, August 11, 08), while standing on the back stairs to our deck.  I zoomed in as close as I could and then I juggled around, shooting the moon between a small opening where our apple and maple trees meet, framing the moon in leaves.

gardenmylavender.jpg picture by Amythyst1

This is a cauldron of lavender growing in my garden.  Remember the movie “Practical Magic” and Aunt Franny’s voice in narration:  “Plant lavender by the garden gate for luck”…and I do.  I’ll be harvesting this lavender soon to use in my oils and to dry for use in my own spell crafting.

signincandyshop.jpg picture by Amythyst1

I took this photo in a candy shop in Old Market, Omaha, Nebraska…right before my daughter-in-law bought us some yummy chocolate truffles.

spider.jpg picture by Amythyst1

This August (’08), I sat on one of the stepping stones in my rock garden and watched a spider building a web as twilight descended.  I glanced down as I put my camera down and saw a small green toad sitting quietly beside me.  Life doesn’t get much better than this.

This is one of the many quaint turn-of-the 19th century buildings that can be seen in Old Market, Omaha.

This is the post at the top of my back porch steps…and they most certainly do!

 Cletus, doing math.   🙂

witchlingemma.jpg picture by Amythyst1

Our youngest witchling doing school on the back deck, illuminated by the sun shining through the skylight.  We practically live on this deck certain times of the year.  The wall you see with the elephant mural does not go all the way to the top and the south and east sides have a wooden porch railing around it– which are covered in morning glories.  Since there is a roof on this deck, it is a wonderful place to sit and sip coffee and enjoy gentle summer rains.

Another Witchling, doing school at the opposite end of the porch from her sibling, shielded from the bright afternoon sunlight.

tarotcards.jpg picture by Amythyst1

These are some of my own tarot decks.  I do believe that I’ve added a couple decks since this pic was taken– and I’ll try, someday, to take a clearer picture.

knickknackssandfrommarthasvineyard.jpg picture by Amythyst1

This is a shelf on our entertainment center, and the sand and stones you see in that vase were sent to my by my friend, Z, all the way from the shores of Martha’s Vineyard.  I thought this was really cool!

herbs.jpg picture by Amythyst1

Herbs hanging to dry from the kitchen ceiling:  lilac, mint, wormwood, lemon balm and lavendar.

mushroom.jpg picture by Amythyst1

A mushroom growing in Iowa.  I snapped this photo during a recent trip that we made back for a family funeral.  It’s growing in my step-son’s backyard.

wytchatwork.jpg picture by Amythyst1

Wytch at Work…I was sitting in my corner in the livingroom, sewing on a red poppet, when my husband snapped this picture.

 art.jpg picture by Amythyst1

This is actually a large framed picture hanging on my daughter-in-law’s dining room wall.  It was created by the artist to promote the arts festival at Cedar Falls.  I love the vibrant colors.

basket1.jpg picture by Amythyst1

This is a lovely basket given to me by a new friend.  She carved the owl onto a mushroom picked from a tree; the mushroom then dries naturally.  I’ve seen other beautiful pieces that she’s done.

Our Home School mascot…Mistress Pixie Paws.

garden2.jpg picture by Amythyst1

Moonflowers blossoming in my magickal garden.

garden3.jpg picture by Amythyst1

Impatience growing beneath the treehouse deck.

gardenone.jpg picture by Amythyst1

These are shamrocks that I bought in March, transplanted in my garden around May, and then I thought they had died off.  Not only didn’t they die off, they spread out to become several new clumps.

Loopiness232.jpg picture by Amythyst1

These are astors blossoming in my herb garden.  I’m going to plant lots, lots more of these hardy little plants next spring.  I love this unexpected burst of color in the fall.

I took this picture through a black windowscreen while this fat little squirrel went through acrobatics to raid the bird feeder in the front yard.

My messy dresser top…sitting here are two magickal boxes that I created, swords and a dagger, a deck of tarot cards, a scattered batch of sterling silver jewelry, a buddah and a chi dog, lavendar oil, a glow in the dark ouija board, a black scrying ball, a dish of oriental soap– Jasmine, I believe, a box of bracelets, green mottled candle sticks, and notes to myself.  At the far right is an antique candy dish that my grandmother gave me.  She said that it was brought over from Germany by my great-great grandfather on my father’s side.  It’s clear glass, but I filled it with silk roses and greenery.

This is a wild grape vine that grows around the stump of a cottonwood tree in the flowerbed in our front yard.

Birdz…on the top shelf of my antique desk.  Ravens are my friends, as you can see, and I consider this one very special for magickal reasons known only to me.  That’s the small white skull of a real bird on the left, below the cardinal.  The kerosene lamp belonged to my Great-Grandmother Lu Raine.  The boxes are not empty…the small black one on top of the elephant box holds an enormous dragonfly that I found on our back porch.  The elephant box is full of small brown bottles filled with items of a wytchy nature.

This box is one of the most unique items ever given to my by a very generous friend.  It never ceases to amaze me, and it generally gets a comment out of visitors.

My elephants lay eggs…even the pink ones:

Actually, when I went through a divorce several years ago, coming out of a very controlling relationship, I was inexplicably drawn to elephants and began collecting them like crazy, from statuary, to jewelry, to artwork.  It was only later that I learned that elephants are representative of Feminine Power.

Katz…Upon our entertainment center I have cat statuary, and among them sits our own gray huntress.

Mistress Pixie Paws…the ultimate Witch’s familiar.

Yes, my dresser top is still messy; and it harbored a visitor from the beginning of last December until the end of February…a small spider made her home between the front legs of the Chi dog.  I was careful not to disturb the dresser top while it housed the pretty lady.  She has since disappeared, either living out her life span or moving on to new and bigger things.

This is Magick

Most people only know and expect from magick what they have seen on television and movies, or what they have read in fictional stories. They expect lots of special effects, both visually astounding and sometimes noisy. They expect instantaneous reactions from magickal incantations and would be satisfied with no less. To most people, if magick does not meet the above criteria, it is not magick.

They would be wrong.

Real magick works in its own way and in its own time…no special effects, no drum rolls, no flashes of light, and most of the time no melodrama. It works quietly, pervasively, discreetly, with sometimes surprising and unexpected results.

As an example…

There is a streetlight located in the neighbor’s backyard, far back in the southwest corner. I have hated this light with a passion for years. I like to go outside at night and bask in the moonlight or swim in the darkness of night, feeling the full effects of this magickal time. My children like to take their telescope out on a dark summer’s eve and visit the stars.

All of this is very hard to do when you are under the spotlight of an obnoxious mega watt lightbulb. We have cursed it many a time under our breath.

Last summer I decided to take matters into my own magickal hands and banish this light. The spell was cast, the curse of banishment spoken, the wand and finger pointed, the feet stamped, the candle set alight, the spell burned, the herbs spread, the Goddess invoked.

I felt within me a quiet sense of satisfaction.

The next night…

There was the light in all its inglorious obnoxiousness. I could almost hear it laughing in triumph, ‘Thought you’d get me, did you!’ And it continued to shine upon us and our entire yard for the rest of the summer, into autumn. I began to ponder the situation, wondering what I may have done wrong, or what I may have overlooked in the magickal texts.

Winter came and spring finally broke through and transformed the world.

I stepped out into the backyard one cool spring night, bracing for the bright light to hit my face…but it didn’t. Our yard was full of deep blue darkness and black shadows and puddles of silver moonlight.

Surprised, I turned in the direction of the streetlight to discover that over the winter the old tree in the neighbor’s yard had experienced a transformation. Its branches had grown incredibly during the winter months and were now lush and full of thick green foliage.

The old storm battered tree had, in fact, grown so much that it overshadowed and hid the streetlight.

This is magick.

Tea Time with the Witch: Magick in the Air

Cafe-du-Matin-Print-C102639061.jpg tea time 1 picture by witch_of_endore

I have been so busy lately that I meet myself coming and going, no kidding.  🙂

There’s been a sharp rise in letters and emails coming in from total strangers asking for advice, spells, tarot readings, mentoring, and a million other things.  If I haven’t answered your message, it is nothing personal– really!— I just have more coming in than what I can keep up with.  Letters/emails from family, close friends, tarot clients, or customers take top priority; I’ll get to any other letters the best I can and still, I probably won’t be able to answer every piece of correspondence coming in.

But know that your interest and your enthusiasm are both welcome!  Just because I can’t answer everything that comes to me, it doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy hearing from you.

I’ve also been straddling a writing project that I feel compelled to pour my efforts into rather than correspondence, since I’ve given myself a deadline that I’ve missed once so far, this snatches away some of my time and creativity for personal letter writing.  I’m attemtping to put my nose to the grindstone harder right now with our home schooling, as I have witchlings transitioning from junior high this year– and math is a major, major priority.  I also have to get my house ready for company at the end of this month– my coven is coming to celebrate Beltaine.  Remember, on my myspace page I said that I was a ‘hit and miss housekeeper’, well this has really come back to bite me in the rear.  I have so much to do in this respect, trying to get things whipped into shape around here, that just knowing where to start sends me into a tizzy.

Despite all this there are some new things up at The Witch’s Corner, and some updates for tarot readings, and what not…

Oriental Pendents

Abrightorientalpendents.jpg picture by witch_of_endore

The four pendents shown above are unique hand-crafted one-of-a-kind items being offered.  The four you see
here are all that is available.

Red Tara Spell

To these beautiful pendents that hold the flavor of the east, I’ve added a Red Tara Spell…

Red Tara is a Tibetan goddess of love and wealth.  She is also known as "The Mother of Perfected Wisdom", and she takes delight in and is drawn to an open mind and a receptive heart.  Tara represents the virtues of success and achievement. She is a tantric deity who will help you develop certain inner qualities and understand deeply ‘compassion’.

One reason for Tara’s popularity is the fact that she became known as a Buddhist deity who could be invoked directly by the common people.

And to these beautiful pendents I’ve added the Red Tara Spell, invoking this ancient goddess and summoning her power.  From this spell, you will draw upon ancient wisdom and gather insight you never dreamed possible.

Tarot Readings

I’m now offering telephone readings.  After purchasing a reading at paypal, you may call the number listed to set up an appointment for your reading.

I’ve had several requests for this type of option at my tarot site for some time, we’ll see how it works for everyone.

The tarot readings at my site come in a wide range of prices to accomodate everyone, from online readings ranging in prices below $20.00 and up to $80.00, as well as video readings for $50.00.  The telephone readings are my most expensive option at $120.00– this was to insure two things for me…1) that I wouldn’t be swamped with so many reading requests I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the demand and 2) to insure that the clients contacting me were serious about receiving a tarot reading and not someone who just wanted a chance to chat with me on the phone.

I’ve enjoyed reading tarot for the public, have made some wonderful friends from it, gained some incredible opportunities because of it, and have hopefully helped people through difficult circumstances or added new insight and food for thought to their daily lives.  Your positive responses and feedback have been greatly appreciated.

Magick Spells…Using Shoes!

The theme for this month’s spell is…shoes. The idea of magic associated with foot wear isn’t new—remember Cinderella’s glass slipper and Dorothy’s sparkling red pumps?

Photobucket

Someone Special Shoe Spell

1. Obtain a lock of hair from the one you desire.

2. Wrap it in a small square of silk, folding the cloth toward you.

3. Wear it in your shoe.

4. The object of your desire should soon approach and give you the opportunity to make a favorable impression.

Photobucket

Courage Oils Shoe Spell

Add one drop of oil to each of your shoes to get you where you need to go with less stress.

“Courage Oil”

clinquefoil, gardenia petals, rosemary leaves…Grind these herbs into a fine powder and add it to jojoba or sunflower oil.

Photobucket

True Love Dream Spell: Fetch My Lover

1. Sprinkle a pair of your beloved’s shoes with spring water.

2. Place a sprig of thyme in one shoe, rosemary in the other.

3. Place a shoe on either side of your bed.

4. Crawl in and dream.

Photobucket

Bridal Protection Spell: Needle in a Shoe

Wrap a needle and a little salt in a piece of red silk. Place this in the bride’s right shoe to promote her magical well being.

Photobucket

Insomnia Spell: Datura-Leaf Shoe Spell

This is an old spell, but be cautious, but be cautious: not only is datura poisonous, it’s also a skin irritant. Place datura leaves in your shoes, then place these shoes under the bed facing the wall to encourage sleep.

New Spells/Items Up at Enchanted Jewelry

New Items!

The following items, plus much more, can be found at:

http://ladyamythyst.webs.com/enchantedjewelry.htm

The following rings come from India.  They are silvertone and adjustable.  The stones are genuine, huge, and heavy…not to mention gorgeous.  I’ve added several of these pieces to my own collection.

brown agate

Hathor’s Myrrh Healing Spell

1agatering1.jpg picture by witch_of_endore

Agates come in a multitude of colors, each of which retains its own magickal connections and energy.  Brown agates were worn by warriors for victory in battles, used in modern times for business success in any undertaking, and was once used to guard against the evil eye, disease, bad luck, etc.  It is also worn as a talisman for prosperity.

This agate’s energy is projective (male), its element is Fire, planet– Mercury (generally speaking, for agates), and its magicakal energies include strength, courage, longevity, gardening, love, healing, and protection.

To this beautiful piece I’ve added Hathor’s Myrrh Healing Spell to intensify the healing energy of this stone.  Hathor, the mother of Horus, was revered in ancient Egypt as the goddess of love, motherhood, joy, music, dance; and also as the goddess who helped women in childbirth.

Among other titles, Hathor was called "The Lady of Myrrh".  Her temples were healing centers.  The enchantment placed upon this ring petitions Hathor directly for healing energy

honey jasper

Jezebel Seduction Spell

1honeyjasperring1.jpg picture by witch_of_endore

This gorgeous piece of red jasper, also called ‘honey jasper’, was used in ancient times to guard against fevers and poisoning.  The energy of red jasper is projective (male); its planet is Mars– nice and fiery, to promote passion; and its element is Fire– of course!   It’s a protective stone that’s often used in defensive magicks, is carried or worn for health and healing, and is worn by women to promote beauty and grace…and this is the energy that I chose to enhance with a Jezebel Seduction Spell.

The energy of Jezebel is called upon to make your beauty and charms irresistible to the one you desire.

Using herbs and roots in the hoodoo tradition, I empowered this beautiful piece with the quivering enticements of the ancient seductress.  This gorgeous ring is dripping with Jezebel’s sensual charms and feminine magnetism. And now you can possess the sexual mystique that will draw lovers helplessly under your spell.

peridot earrings– .925 silver–
posts (very dainty)– four leaf clover design

Good Luck Spell

1peridotearrings1.jpg picture by witch_of_endore

Peridot is a stone that contains so much magickal energy– it was used in ancient times to guard against enchantments, nightmares, illusions, and the evil eye.  It’s worn or carried for general healing purposes, especially effective for insect bites & liver ailments; to promote sleep, attract love, calm tempers, and to relieve depression.  It was also used in wealth and prosperity magick.

Peridot’s energy is receptive (feminine), its planet Venus, and it’s element Earth.

I decided to take advantage of the obvious connection to the Irish tradition of the four leaf clover.  To these beautiful earrings, I have cast a Good Luck Spell, using roots and herbs from the hoodoo tradition.  These earrings are charged with the power to bring the wearer good fortune in all areas of life, including  good luck in financial matters, matters of the heart, and matters of health and well-being.

A Block of Work Which Merits Re-posting

Some of the following commentary and excerpts from various essays have been posted before, here or there, can’t remember all where. “Are You Empathic?” is actually a new piece that will be included in the March newsletter from my website, consider this an early preview.

The following essays and commentary are my own and are copyrighted. You can not reproduce this body of work in any form without my written consent. Contact Lady Amythyst at: witch_of_endore@yahoo.com

____________________

Most people have a certain amount of empathy (sympathetic feelings) for other human beings and even animals. It is this natural empathy that stirs compassion and in turn sets in motion good deeds, well-wishes, prayers, assistance, and mercy. But being empathic goes one step further. An empath can ‘feel’ or ‘sense’ the emotions of those people around them. When someone is talking face to face with an empath, the substance of their words will shine in bright contrast to their true feelings. An empath will know when you are lying to them. They will actually feel your dislike or approval, acutely. An empath will pick up the smallest of nuances in the expression of the eyes, the twitch of a facial muscle, an almost unnoticeable inflection in the voice.

But aside fromkeen awareness to these physical cues that most people are oblivious to, an empath will be able to feel someone else’s emotions as though they were their own. This phenomenon is amplified in large crowds and can become overwhelming and uncomfortable, as well as physically draining; which is why many empaths learn, over the years, how to block and shield themselves from other people’s emotions. It’s a necessary survival mechanism for many super-sensitive empaths. It’s also why some avoid circumstances involving large crowds of people.

Being empathic brings a different dimension to how you view the world, how you feel about specific people and circumstances, and decisions that you make. Would you want to know how certain people in your life really feel about you? About decisions and choices you have made? Would you like to feel other people’s approval, admiration, dislike, envy, disapproval— all without a word spoken? This is not always the blessing many people think it would be. It often sends you on an emotional rollercoaster. The phenomenon of this quirky psychic overload certainly reveals your true friends, but it also reveals adversaries that may wear the cloak of friendship, ulterior motives, as well as other shocking revelations.

About being grounded and at peace…for me that’s something that has come with time and age. I’ve been through three divorces in my life, uncertainty, fluctuations– financial, spiritual, mental, a variety of paths, faced a number of irritating obstacles, etc. I finally *arrived*…that’s what it feels like to turn 50. I don’t know why people dread aging and especially dread middle-age. This has been the best time of my life. I know who I am, what I believe, what I want out of life, the path I desire. I like myself, my world, my choices, and the energy around me. It’s a hoot!

About men and commitment…This is the one thing I would change about my life if I could go back and make different decisions. I would choose to find myself first, to be a whole person on my own. I would strive for financial independence, spiritual freedom, dreams and goals that were mine alone. Only then would I choose to take on a partner and become one of a pair– and even then, I’m sure I would insist on maintaining that unique mental independence that makes me who I am.

Commitment is a strange thing. It means different things to different people. I have one lady who is absolutely tormented at the fact that her lover, who recently went through a devastating divorce, won’t marry her. At the other end of the spectrum, my Aunt has been with her man for almost 40 years. They were never legally married, but they are more committed to each other than many people I’ve seen who are. Commitment doesn’t necessarily come with a slip of paper from our judicial system– it comes from the heart.

Christianity has warped our sense of humanity with it’s myriad rules and policies that try to dehumanize us. Not every relationship is meant to be ‘forever’. It’s a rare thing, as a matter of fact. I’ve only seen two couples in my life who were true soul mates and were in love and happy with their relationship until the end of their lives. I’ve seen many more who lived out a miserable existence, barely tolerating each other, because they believed it was expected of them.

Anyone lucky enough to find love should enjoy it while it lasts, whether it’s for a season, a life time, or a fleeting miraculous minute.

(The following is an excerpt from a longer work…)

About ‘being out’…I’m so used to being Pagan that I really don’t think anything about it, no more than if I were Lutheran or Jewish or whatever.

My mother is a witch. She has never tried to hide what she is and yet she has never deliberately flaunted it. But anyone walking into her home would know immediately that she is not Donna Reed.

My dad is a shaman, the ‘ole gray wizard’ he calls himself. They live in the west and he hikes the trails in the Rocky Mountains as if it were his own backyard. He climbs up above the timberline to perform solitary rituals. He says there’s nothing like it.

My grandmother was a woman fascinated by the occult. I grew up surrounded by books and conversation on astrology, numerology, and a wide assortment of paranormal topics. She was forever checking her astrological charts before any major decisions or doctor’s appointments. She had her own little ‘rituals’ and odd things she did, but she never would have thought to fit herself with the title of witch. I think that’s funny.

My youngest sister practices witchcraft, as well as two of my cousins, and three of my own daughters.

I guess, growing up with paganism in one form or another, I didn’t always realize how ‘different’ it would seem to people. I know that sometimes I get some strange looks from someone here or there, and I know that when people meet me, some will like me and others won’t– but that’s the way it goes. And those that don’t like me may not have liked me if I were pagan or not, or they may not be worth the effort it would take to get them to like me…insidious little circle, isn’t it?

Since I home school, I’ve never run into the grade school and high school ‘Mean Girls’ with my children– thank Goddess, I had enough of those when I was in school…needless to say I never fit in, I was always a little odd, but they couldn’t put their finger on exactly why. lol!!

I find that the older I get the less I care about other people’s opinions. I also find that Pagan Rights is becoming a more and more important issue for me. I hope I don’t offend anyone– but I think that Christianity is one of the worst things to have happened to the world. It’s such a do or die, my way or the highway, unforgiving institution. It’s a bully.

I must say that the worst case of disrespect and bigotry I’ve experienced has come from my husband’s family. They are an ultra-conservative Iowa farm family who has nothing to do with us because I am a “Witch”– I figure good for them, that’s one less holiday meal I’ll be responsible for. I don’t have to listen to my husband’s sisters-in-law whine, I don’t have to put up with his brothers’ moods and life goes on here in our little household with a peaceful grace.

I guess I’m comfortable with my path and with who I am, so much so that I don’t think about it all that much. I imagine, being raised in this house, that my children will be the same way.

To Whom It May Concern:

Publicly, you say all the right things; you display all the right images. You nurture a magickal persona, a nuance. You portray yourself as an authority on everything, and you have tricked other people into believing that you are just that. You act as an authority of steel that smacks down free thought for everyone but yourself…”My way is the only way.”…How many religions and cults and egotists have spouted those words?

At first I was charmed and awed by you, just as everyone else. But then I began to notice little chinks in the public persona, just little things at first, but enough to put a spark of doubt about you in my mind.

Then Jerry Falwell died and you posted a blog about his death.

As a pagan, he was about as far removed from my world and the spectrum of my spirituality as he could get. I didn’t pay any attention at all to this man—until he died and you posted that blog.

I was shocked.

The viciousness of your words, the complete lack of humanity was appalling. It was the epitome of bad taste and poor judgment and showed a complete lack of compassion for a fellow human being. It was vicious and mean. This blog grated against all the other quiet authoritarian, “wise woman”, sage words that you had posted before…and, as I rightly suspected, this was your real voice.

You slipped up here, exposing your real personality, if only briefly. But I knew it was only a matter of time until the artificial veneer that you nurture so carefully would crack, exposing the genuine ugliness that lay below.

Jerry Falwell? I didn’t know him, didn’t follow him, and probably would not have given his death a second thought—but then I read your blog.

Regardless of his religious beliefs or his politics…he was merely another human being among the millions on earth. He was a man slogging through life as we all are– rising to an alarm clock, driving through traffic, paying his taxes, brushing his teeth.

And then he died.

Now he was a man who would never hold his wife again, never dance at a grandchild’s wedding, never offer a comforting hug to his children, never watch a sunset, have coffee with a friend, or pet a dog. Strip away from him all the labels society placed upon him, and it simplifies things tremendously…

He was a man who died.

It’s Name is Fear

I can feel something lurking near me, something insidious and full of guile and malice. It’s a sheer white mist that has its origins deep within human minds, curling and twisting its way from eyes to arms to fingertips, to computer keys. It creeps like a fog, swirling around desks and keyboards, creeping around still bodies caught in rapt concentration, their faces illuminated by the screens before them.

And it speaks…”you can’t”, “you must”, “thou shalt”, “thou shalt not”, “you will be punished”, “you will be sorry”, “tremble before me”…

It is the ghost of Christianity wearing a cloak of narrow-mindedness. And slinking along close behind it is a twisted, ugly creature, its predatory eyes darting here and there, searching for prey. Its name is Fear.

Its eyes suddenly open wide in shock and recognition—there is a being too elusive for Fear to touch. It senses her very near now and a shiver runs through its crippled frame. He sees her then. She steps from the shadows of the trees, tall and proud, the soft breeze gently lifting her hair. A flicker of emotion changes Fear’s eyes for the briefest moment.

This being raises her arms, slowly spreading her hands, her fingertips. She empties her lungs and takes a deep breath and can instantly feel the tingling on the souls of her bare feet as the energy of the earth is drawn upward, into her body. It rises swiftly, coming faster and getting stronger until it makes the skin on her legs rise in goose flesh. It begins to rush upward, through her thighs and her pelvis, her torso. Her arms begin to tremble, her hands to shake—the energy overtakes her and she turns the palms of her hands toward Fear.

For a brief instant his grotesque, deformed face reflects his own persona…and then he disappears in a shattering of colored particles, dispersed in time and place.

The witch drops to her knees, overcome yet with the energy still coursing through her body. She gently places the palms of her hands flat on the ground and feels the release and rush as the energy returns from whence it came. Her shoulders slump and she sighs in relief.

It is done.

Baubles n’ Spells n’ Magickal Things

I’ve been at it again, casting enchantments on some new wytchy bling and trying to pry certain pieces that I’ve fallen in love with out of my hot little hands so that I can actually part with them!

I absolutely love the azurite, and I’m afraid that I’m going to have to find a ring or pendent for myself, as the energy from this stone is wonderful– reminds me very much of lapis.  I broke down and procured a peridot for myself…I couldn’t resist, didn’t have any, and green is my favorite color.  Moonstone– I have several pieces of personal jewelry in moonstone, and I believe this is one of the most powerful stones for women.

Anyway…There are some new pieces up at Enchanted Jewelry, and with it are some new enchantments and some previous spells that have been requested.

Enjoy!

Azurite ring– 18X13 mm–

 Third Eye Spell

AzuriteRing1.jpg picture by witch_of_endore

Azurite is a beautiful, deep blue stone, long used in magic to increase psychic powers.  Wear this ring to bed at night to experience prophetic dreams, wear it when doing any divination work, or wear it simply to open that part of your sub-conscious mind that we so often ignore.  Azurite can also be used in scrying, using the stone itself, as well as in healing magicks.  Its energy is receptive (feminine), its planet Venus.  The element associated with azurite is water.

To this exquisitely handcrafted azurite ring, already instilled naturally with so much psychic potential, I’ve cast a Third Eye Spell to enhance and increase your psychic awareness, to stimulate and encourage clairvoyance, clairsentience, and clairaudience.  This magickal piece of enchanted jewelry is perfect to open the mystical third eye of the average person, or to enhance the abilities of psychic tarot readers, mediums, and clairvoyants.

 Spell of Prosperity

peridotring6.jpg picture by witch_of_endore

Peridot was used by the ancients as a protective amulet to guard against the evil eye.  It was worn or carried for general healing purposes, and was reputed to promote healing of insect bites and to help in liver ailments.  If worn to bed it also promotes sleep and calms the nervous system.  Ancient Romans wore peridot to relieve depression.

Peridot’s energy is receptive (feminine), its planet Venus, and its element Earth.

This beautiful green stone is also used to attract wealth and prosperity, and that’s the enchantment that I’ve cast upon this piece– that it may bring money and necessary funds to the wearer, that your purse never runs empty and your plate always be full.

Wedjat Eye Enchantment

MoonstoneEarrings4.jpg picture by witch_of_endore

These charming earrings are very dainty, the kind of earrings you can put in and wear comfortably without having to remove them for long periods of time.

To these earrings I’ve added a Wejat Eye Enchantment…The Wedjat Eye is the healed eye of the Egyptian god Horus, said in ancient mythologies to represent the powers of the moon.  It has long been used in spells as a protective charm, and this image was used in the spell cast upon these earrings to invoke the protective powers of Horus.  In this spell the power was raised to protect against evil from others, be that evil envy, wishing ill, or other ill feeling.

Moonstone is a blue, white, or pink feldspar and has long been connected to the moon, the Goddess,  and magick. Moonstone’s energy is receptive; it’s planet the Moon.  It corresponds to the element of Water, and particularly to the deities– Diana, Selene, Isis, and all lunar goddesses.

Enchanted Jewelry– Papa Legba Protection Spell

Moss Agate ring– .925 sterling silver–
size 8.5– large setting, big ring

 Papa Legba Protection Spell

MossAgatering1.jpg picture by witch_of_endore

To this beautiful– and impressive– moss agate ring, I have called upon the hoodoo spirit of Papa Legba in the form of a protection spell.

Papa Legba is the famous, and infamous, spirit of the crossroads, often appearing as an old black man.  He’s a spirit from the West African Voodoo tradtion, and you will find him under the guise of many other names, including:  Elegba, Exu, and Papa La Bas– his New Orleans incarnation.

Papa Legba is a trickster who delights in practical jokes and word games, but he is also a spirit of amazing generosity and protective care.  He protects infertile women, removing obstacles to motherhood; and he assists the poor, often opening up paths and removing obstacles that hinder their growth towards prosperity.  It is said that Papa Legba stands at the crossroads with his shepherd’s crook, where he opens and closes access to life’s path.

Papa Legba’s days are Monday & every third day of the month, his colors are red, black and white, his numbers 3 and 23.

The agate in general is used in spells and magickal rituals involving strength, bravery, fertility, strength, courage, longevity, and healing.  It’s energy is receptive (feminine) and it’s element is the earth.

Due to its curious markings, which suggest moss or trees, the moss agate is considered the gardener’s talisman.  It’s worn to relieve a stiff neck, to lend energy to the depleted, and for healing purposes.  It is also used in spells involving riches, happiness, and long life.  Wear this stone to make new friends and to discover ‘treasure’.

Whatever the spiritual path that you follow, you most likely believe that you are watched over by a spiritual entity.  Depending upon whether you are Catholic, Pagan, follow a Native American quest, or almost any other religion, your protective spirit may come with many titles:  spirit guide, totem, teacher…or guardian angel.

To this beautiful and dainty opal ring I’ve added a spell that will consciously draw your guardian angel/spirit guide to you.  Whether you are beginning a new phase of life, a new project, embarking on a journey, or you simply need guidance and insight from a higher source, this enchantment will help you connect with the guiding spirit that stands at your shoulder.

Red Tara Spell

garnetearrings1.jpg picture by witch_of_endore

The moment I saw the deep red stones in these earrings, I thought of the Hindu goddess Red Tara.  I’ve had several requests for this spell, so I assume Her essence touches other women as well.  These are very elegant and mystical looking earrings, drawing from the energy of the East.  When worn, the light shines freely through these stones, illuminating them.

Red Tara is a Tibeten goddess of love and wealth.  She is also known as "The Mother of Perfected Wisdom", and She takes delight in and is drawn to an open mind and a receptive heart.  Tara represents the virtues of success and achievment. She is a tantric deity who will help you develop certain inner qualities and understand deeply ‘compassion’.  One reason for Tara’s popularity is the fact that she became known as a Buddist deity who could be invoked directly by the common people.

And to these gorgeous garnet earrings I’ve added the Red Tara Spell, invoking this ancient goddess and summoning Her power.  From this spell, you will draw upon ancient wisdom and gather insight you never dreamed possible.

Paranormal Tarot Event

Last month, when I was giving live tarot readings at Next Millennium, I had the most unusual experience.  Actually, it was two of us who shared the experience—me and the lady I was reading for.

The cards were laid upon the table, we were both bent over in concentration and involved in animated discussion, when suddenly, it looked and felt as though the table started sliding to my right, not just an inch or two, but maybe 6-8 inches.  It made us both jump, and the sensation almost made me dizzy.  I braced both hands on the top of the table and almost shouted at the woman, “Did you see that!”  She most certainly had.  We bent over to peer beneath the table, which was just a simple fold up card table.  We used our hands to measure the distance between the wall-hanging and where the edge of the table now sat.

Then we shrugged our shoulders and picked up our conversation where we’d left off.

Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this during a tarot reading, or any other unusual paranormal activity while involved in divination?  I’d love to hear about similar experiences.

samhain-goddess-the-crone1.jpg Samhain Crone image by pbear_spirit

The Crone

I just finished reading Z Budpest’s experience of her Croning.  It brought a new admiration and respect for women entering into this third stage of life.  I know that middle-age was quite a surprise to me.  You hear so many negative things about aging, especially about women aging, no one ever tells you how liberating it is.  You feel as though you have finally ‘arrived’, which sounds strange but is so true.  You have a better definition in your own head of who you are, what you want from life, what you expect from those around you, and where you are going next.

Middle-age fills you with a renewed sense of purpose, and more importantly, a renewed sense of yourself.  Questions that have lingered in your mind are answered and new paths and adventures are opened to you.

When your time comes…embrace your middle-age and the Crone within you!  She may very well turn out to be the most beautiful part of yourself.

 Cleansing
As we come to the end of 2009 and prepare to begin a new year, we think about New Year’s resolutions, starting over with clean slates, and cleansing—cleansing our living space, clearing it of negative energy, bothersome entities, and other paranormal debris that creates its own kind of clutter.

There are many ways of cleansing a space, some as simple as lighting a white candle and burning incense.  This is not a new concept, and through the centuries the ancients have come up with numerous ways to clear a living space of negative energy:

Asperging, cleansing by sprinkling water, is a practice still used by the Catholic Church today.  Make a strong infusion by pouring boiling water over peony roots.  Use a sprig of rosemary to dip in the water and sprinkle about a room or rooms.  This same method can be used with mint as a substitute for peony.

Use a broom to sweep the floors, preferably from east to west.  Burn the debris and throw the ashes outdoors.  Finish up with a magical floor wash by adding a sprig of rosemary to your water.

Create Blessing Oil by adding frankincense and rosemary to olive oil or jojoba oil.  Dress a blue and white candle with this oil, which means to rub the oil on the candle, and burn to purify the atmosphere.

Smudging, cleansing by using smoke to clear an area, has long been used by Native Americans.  Light a sage smudge stick and walk slowly from room to room, dispersing the smoke.  To clear a space of negative energy from a broken relationship, and to make way for a new love, burn dried rose petals and coriander.

You can also cleanse a space through sound.  This is one reason bells are incorporated in churches; they are powerful space cleansers.  Ring bells whenever you feel your space needs cleansing.  You can hang bells or wind chimes in a breezy spot so that this type of cleansing becomes ongoing.

Botanicals don’t have to be burned to cleanse.  Quarter an onion and place one piece in each of the four corners of a room.  Replace and refresh as needed.  Hang a bundle of rosemary and sage above the windows and doors to prevent negative energy from entering.

Crystals and stones can also be used to cleanse and purify your living space.  Place amethyst stones in room corners to absorb negative energy.  When they begin to look dull, wash them under running water and return them to their place.  Other stones that can be used for this purpose are clear quartz crystal and malachite.

You may feel a difference in the atmosphere of your home after a cleansing.  And it’s nice to know you’ll begin a new year in a clean space.

 Happy New Year.

The four elements…Earth, Air, Fire, Water.

These elements are used by the Witch in her practice of magick. They correspond to the four compass points and are invoked to guard her sacred space during ritual, providing protection from negative energy and malevolent entities. They represent the elemental beings of gnomes, sylphs, salamanders, and undines; and they represent the energies associated with each.  They have particular correspondences connected to color, magickal intention, the planets, days of the week and timing when it comes to spell crafting.  They are as old as time, as infinite as the universe, and I’d like to introduce you to each one…

Earth is all the treasures buried deep within the soul. It is the material things you long for and were told you shouldn’t have. It is the security of that which is solid and immovable, and it is “manifestation” into the real world of touch and taste and smell and sight.

Air is the soft breeze on your face that makes you feel touched and not touched. It is thought brought alive and moved through space and time by the Divine. Air is the part of your mind that is clear and sharp and focused and ever changing, never still and never content, but always swept up within another breeze and moved along on the current of time.

Fire is that physical passion so burning that it can consume. It is enthusiasm so powerful that it is what drives you to succeed. Fire is that fiery will that doesn’t allow you to give up in the face of adversity. It is what draws lovers together across insurmountable odds and provokes the passion that fights endlessly for justice.

Water is the mist of yesterday and today and tomorrow all wrapped up into one magical moment. Water is dreams and visions and questing endlessly to know the unknown. It is divination– searching for answers and listening to the universe for its response. It is the mystical and the elusive.  It slips through your fingers leaving you wet and cold and shivering, knowing that you have been touched by the Divine.

Gothic.jpg blue witch image by wickedwitchesbrew

I answered the following questions as part of an interview:

Are you willing to step outside all perceived boxes?

I’ve been stepping outside of boxes, perceived or not, since I was twelve years old.

Do you ever wonder if “this is it”?

No, I don’t wonder “if this is it” because I already know that there is much more below the surface. The physical life that we view from this plane on Earth is only the tip of the iceberg. Other realities, other planes of existence, surround us; most people are simply unaware.

Listen to your inner self…What does it really wish it could be doing?

I’ve listened to my inner self for over fifty years. After a certain age you raise your head a moment from your daily endeavors and you suddenly realize: “Voila’!! I have arrived!”

Have you ever felt like you were supposed to be doing more with your life?

At certain stages, but then, somehow, you gravitate to those things you should be/wanna be/could be doing, and sometimes you get there through incredibly round-a-bout ways. ‘Everything happens for a reason’, so the old cliche goes.

Have you ever yearned to use your natural talents to contribute to the world?

Absolutely…That’s why I became a professional tarot reader; that’s why I built my website; that’s why I became a Pagan activist; that’s why I became a Reiki practitioner.

Do you ever feel like you are wasting time on things that aren’t important to you?

Every wife & mother of a large family feels like that, if not daily, then every once in a while– usually when she’s cleaning off the kitchen counter for the tenth time in a day, folding someone elses’ socks, or scrubbing the toilet bowl. But even those small mundane chores of life are part of what makes us who we are.

Do you desire to serve others in a bigger way but don’t know how?

I’m learning how, have been now for years, and although new doors are opening all the time for this opportunity, there are still other pathways and possibilities to explore.

BESTfairygreengltr.jpg image by findstuff22

To some people, witchcraft conjures up expectations of a genie in a bottle…wishes will be granted, wealth and beauty attained, enemies punished, and new loves found.  Witchcraft can accomplish these things, although not instantaneously and often in ways you don’t expect.

Today, let’s look at “Beauty”…to be beautiful is the desire of most people, as is shown by the big business of plastic surgery and the cosmetics industries.  But how did our ancestors go about attaining beauty?  Those wise women of the distant past who had only themselves to rely on for creating the products and methods they would use…

 “Morning Dew”

It is said that by going out early in the morning, on that first May day, and bathing your face in the shimmering dew, you will achieve the appearance of youth and beauty.  I believe the magick of morning dew works not only on May Day, but throughout the year as well.  I use to do this as a child, long before I ever heard the legend.  Decades later, I still swear by the tingling sensation of those sparkling diamonds of moisture.

 “Rosemary”

This common and popular herb has many uses and is a standard in most witches’ cupboards.  The ability to enhance “Youth & Beauty” is only a small part of Rosemary’s allure, but it is a popular one.

Fill a glass jar with water, sprinkle in a large pinch or two of dried Rosemary, and let this steep for a couple of days.  (You can then pour this through a sieve to remove the Rosemary.)  Refrigerate it and use it as an astringent for your face.  Wet a cotton ball and bathe your face in the chilled dark water, reeking of the pungent odor of this wonderful herb.

Let the magick and energy of Rosemary work for you to create glowing skin and a more youthful appearance.

Hex-breaker Curse Removal Spell

AmberEarrings1.jpg picture by witch_of_endore

These amber stones are so brilliant and golden, called ‘Butter Cream Amber’, that it was actually difficult for me to get a clear photo of them.  They shine bright, like the sun, which is the planet amber is associated with.  Amber’s energy is projective (male), its elements are Fire and Akasha (Spirit).  The Deity connected to this stone is The Great Mother.  Amber is often referred to as ‘The Witch’s Stone’, and you will see it used widely in combination with jet.  It’s magick energy is often used in spells for luck, healing, strength, protection, beauty, and love.

Amber is often worn as protection against negative magick and is used to dispell negative energy.  It’s worn by witches and shamans to strengthen their spells, worn by women to enhance their beauty and natural sexuality, and has long been used to combat infertility, to attractthe right mate, and to battle impotency.

To these beautiful amber earrings I have added a spell to break hexes or curses cast your way– either purposefully by the magickally crafted, or unwittingly by those who may be jealous, petty, have ulterior motives, or are just plain mean-spirited.

With the help of this spell and these earrings, you will now be able to bounce any negative energy sent your way back to the sender and seal it there.

Happy Hearth Spell

MoonstoneEarrings1.jpg picture by witch_of_endore

The wonderful feeling of warmth, contentment, and security that you feel seated around the kitchen table with your family, or gathered in the backyard for a summer’s barbecue can be enhanced and maintained with the help of a Happy Hearth Spell.  This spell acts as a protective barrier against negative energy and influences that may cause friction and upheaval in your home.  It binds the positive energy of the occupants to create a stronger alliance and loyalty.

To these elegant moonstone earrings, I have cast a Happy Hearth Spell.  The essence of the Goddess and the female energy of the homemaker and hearth keeper have been instilled within this enchanted piece of jewelry.  This is a spell/blessing that can be passed down from mother to daughter, for generations to come.

Surviving the Cursed Winter Wonderland

We made it through this last major winter storm, none the worse for wear, but a little frayed where the nerves are concerned– six kids, two adults, and seven cats– all hunkered down while the winds howl and the snow blows and the storm rages outside our humble cottage.

Gawds, I hate winter. I don’t know how/why I’ve managed to stay in the upper mid-west all of my 52 years…insanity or lack of ambition, it must be one of those. Personally, I’d vote for insanity, as lack of ambition would be embarrassing.  Anyway, the sun is shining once more, but the temperature has taken a nose dive, and we woke up this morning to well below zero temps– actual temps, not that crazy wind-chill ‘this-is-what-it-feels-like’ spiel.

In winter, I do believe that Mother Nature is out to kill us– or to weed out the weaklings, that only the strongest may survive. Egads. Survival of the fittest.

I’ll be posting more information, along with the first pieces, when everything is ready.

The Maiden

The maiden is overflowing with all of the possibilities of the future. Within her are the seeds of what will be. She is the fresh dawn of a new day. She is strength and tenacity and power. She is unbridled enthusiasm and wonder and hope.

The Mother

The mother is ripe fruit hanging pregnant from the vine. She is the foundation, the nurturer, the protectress. She is fortified with strength and placid with the calmness of a sunny day. She is who we turn to for stability and reassurance.

The Crone

It is the crone we seek in the darkening twilight. We find comfort in her quiet presence and yet we are challenged by her intuitive knowledge and aware of the darkshadows she casts…forcing us to seek the light and answers.

Divination

Photobucket

Divination brings to mind the stereotype of the gypsy woman ensconced in her tent, peering intently into her crystal ball—and that may very well be an accurate picture somewhere in the world. I grew up in my grandmother’s house, surrounded by books on astrology, numerology, handwriting analysis, dream interpretation, etc. The world of divination is a natural one for me.

But divination in this modern time of neo-paganism has come a long way baby.

Tarot cards of all kinds abound and fill the shelves at not only new-age and metaphysical shops, but also at the mainstream bookstores such as Borders, Barnes & Noble, Hastings, etc.

Crystals, crystal balls, runes, quija boards are as popular now as they were in times past—more so, perhaps. I like to think of this day and age as the “New Renaissance” for the occult world.

Spells & Potions

Photobucket

This is the “meat” of witchcraft, the most fascinating (and sometimes fear inducing) aspect of The Craft for many people. To most of the mundane world the idea that anyone would have the power and the ability to create change using occult means is awe inspiring and often intimidating. The Christian influence in our culture and on our society has taken such natural power away from the multitudes, deeming it “evil”, “sinful”, and even dangerous.

To those of us practiced and gifted in the use of “the black arts”, it carries none of those negative labels. It is awe inspiring, but in an uplifting and promising way. It empowers those who cultivate its secrets and those who learn to use it wisely. It opens doors of dimensions undreamed of; it embraces the forces of nature in all her glory; it wreaks of a time before recorded history…it calls to those of us with the spirit of the Olde Ones, those of us who wish to practice the Olde Religion, those of us who wish to return to these ancient times and reclaim that which is our birthright.

Herbs

Photobucket

This is the magickal medicine cabinet of the witch, and especially the Green Witch. Those who practice the olde ways have known since time immemorial of the powers contained in the molecules of “the green”. Herbs have been used since ancient times—and still are used today—for their medicinal and healing powers. But the Witch knows that these gentle and lovely plants contain other powers as well…magickal powers to be used and tapped into for spells and potions and rituals and cleansing.

The Elements

(Earth, Air, Fire, Water)

Photobucket

FOR ME: Water is the mist of yesterday and today and tomorrow all wrapped up into one magical moment. Water is dreams and visions and questing endlessly to know the unknown. It is divination– searching for answers and listening to the universe for its response. It is the mystical and the elusive…it slips through your fingers leaving you wet and cold and shivering, knowing that you have been touched by the Divine.

FOR ME: Air is the soft breeze on your face that makes you feel touched and not touched. It is thought brought alive and moved through space and time by the Divine. Air is the part of your mind that is clear and sharp and focused and ever changing, never still and never content, but always swept up within another breeze and moved along on the current of time.

FOR ME: Earth is all the treasures buried deep within the soul. It is the material things you long for and were told you shouldn’t have. It is the security of that which is solid and immovable, and it is “manifestation” into the real world of touch and taste and smell and sight.

FOR ME: Fire is that physical passion so burning that it can consume. It is enthusiasm so powerful that it is what drives you to succeed. Fire is that fiery will that doesn’t allow you to give up in the face of adversity. It is what draws lovers together across insurmountable odds and provokes the passion that fights endlessly for justice.

Earth, Air, Fire, and Water…the four elements from which we can draw power to create magick.

Wheel of the Year

(Pagan Holidays)

Photobucket

The Christian “holidays” all have Pagan roots. This is a fact that was constantly brought up to me years ago by a lady who was my friend and a Jehovah’s Witness. It was her oft repeated reason to me why she didn’t celebrate any of the modern Christianized holidays now.

I am surprised by the number of people who do not know this, and even more surprised at how many refuse to believe it. It just goes to show how completely saturating cultural training can be.

I find the history of our Pagan holidays fascinating and joyful and uplifting. I and my family embrace and celebrate them.

Chakras

Photobucket

The word chakra is Sanskrit for wheel or disk and signifies one of seven basic energy centers in the body. Each of these centers correlates to major nerve ganglia branching forth from the spinal column. In addition the chakras also correlate to levels of consciousness, archetypal elements, developmental stages of life, colors, sounds, body functions, and much, much more.

This definition of chakras is taken from:

Rituals

Photobucket

Rituals put a stamp on the passage of time and the progression of our life stages, from a Wiccaning (baby naming) to a death and remembrance ritual, and all those celebrations and milestones in-between. Rituals validate our existence in some implausible elusive way. They bring family and friends together, open doors to the future, and create memories for generations to come.

Ghosts/Ghost Hunting

Photobucket

Growing up in my grandmother’s house prepared me for the paranormal occurrences that I would experience in this, my own house. My grandmother’s house was very active and anyone with an ounce of sensitivity to such things was always very aware of it…the feeling of being “watched” when no one else was near you, the hair suddenly standing up on the back of your neck and the sensation that “someone” was standing behind you, unintelligible whisperings in the dark of the night, a blanket being pulled from you by something you couldn’t see, lights going off and on with no explanation—and stove burners doing the same unnerving thing, objects occasionally moving, etc.

Growing up with these occurrences, I thought it was natural—wasn’t everyone’s house like this?

Apparently not, I was to learn as I became older. That enlightenment helped me to appreciate, study, and cope with paranormal activities on a very basic level. It also taught me to conquer any fear.

But witchcraft taught me how to tame these ethereal spirits, how to control them instead of allowing them to control me. Witchcraft taught me it was possible to have dominion over the spirit world.

My Path

Photobucket

I am a solitary eclectic witch. My path consists of hoodoo, Wicca, and green witchcraft. I am neither a “white” nor a “black” witch; I prefer to see myself in shades of gray— nothing else on this earth is completely clear cut, the practice of The Craft isn’t either.

I am a hereditary witch, taking after the traditions of my mother, my sister, and cousins. I am now watching my own daughters grow in this path. I was raised by my grandmother, a woman steeped in the study of the occult, yet probably not realizing the title many in this world would have attributed to her.

I am a legally ordained member of the clergy, yet I avoid the usual titles which smack too closely of Christianity for my taste. I prefer the simple, yet deeply meaningful title of “Lady”.

Photogallery

I’ve opened a window on this page, a window into my private world.  I have tried to post images on here that I haven’t posted anywhere else, they are exclusive.  I haven’t decided yet whether to continue the Photogallery or relegate it to an archive, but my camera is always ready, and life somehow or other always has something interesting to show me.
